Lol...it’s amazing how much I forgot about that. We lived not far from the Everglades in PBC. Our pool was screened but you could see those darned things throwing themselves at it trying to get through. Yeah, that part was miserable, even with the spraying.

It really takes a bite out of the wallet for newer cars. I guess they have to have higher fees given lesser population density and income levels, but ouch.

Yes - the desert is spectacular. We have made a point to see and explore as much as possible. Finding Indian ruins or petroglyphs is simply fascinating. Dinosaur fossils and tracks are like hitting a jackpot. We love it.

We love it, it’s the best move we could have made for the kids to get them out of South Florida before they became infected by whatever the heck they catch near Broward County that turns them into blithering morons.

I’ve posted on other threads that a couple of years back there was a projection of the largest US cities, and within a couple of decades all but one or two of the top twenty most populous would be in areas that didn’t have snow in the winter. It wasn’t just a function of heating costs; on top of that I believe it was about the reliability (of being able to get to work, to school, etc.).

Hey, had to share this if you like to roadtrip in Arizona.

It's the "Moenkopi Dinosaur Tracks" near Tuba City in the Navajo Nation. It's one of the most amazing roadside stops that simply looks like NOTHING from the road but is spectacular once you go in.

The Navajo were really great. You cut a deal to buy jewelry in exchange for a tour. Our guide was amazing and gave us a terrific tour and spent a long time with us. We bought a bunch of jewelry later because it was actually great stuff and made very unique gifts.

Anyway, if you make your way there, check it out, but otherwise check out some of the photos at the website.

You should have seen the looks on the faces of our kids. Heck, my wife loves this stuff, too and she was blown away.

I’m fine with that as long as the snow birds don’t bring their penchant for big government.

But they will. Just look what they are doing to Colorado.

I’ve lived in Tucson since Ford was in the White House. I know all about heat. Humidity is another matter. But even then, get into a well air conditioned building, knock down some cold beverage. Not like cold.

Spent my first 25 years here living in swamp cooling. Plenty of nights at 95 with high humidity, it’s why God invented fans and sleeping naked.

I’ve done time in Chicago, I’ve done time in the desert. There are no circumstances under which I will ever live in the snow belt again. Cold sucks. And more and more Americans are figuring that out, which is why the snow belt is bleeding population.

Done snow, done heat. I will never do snow again. I don’t even like seeing it on the mountain.

The good news for you is as more and more of the American population agrees with me you’ll have lots of elbow room up there.

I just don’t get the big deal, personally I enjoy camping in winter more than camping in a New Mexico summer.

Turn on A/C, or turn on the heater, as long as you have them, the temperature is comfortable.

The big deal is cold sucks. Especially with the nasty snap we’re under right now in Tucson. We normally get winters in the 70s and even 80s, biking, swimming, grilling, it’s great. Now we’re getting a “normal” winter, high today of 45, SUCKS. Can’t do anything fun outside, can feel the cold leeching through the floor, just plain no fun. 100 degree summers are the price we pay for mild winters, I want my mild winter dammit.

I don’t enjoy camping anywhere, anytime. I have a job so I don’t have to live like a homeless person.

You could have just stayed with describing how you prefer hot climates over cold.

If we ever have a severe SHTF situation, and it requires a LOT of manual labor to keep warm in the winter, the entitlement army will definitely be heading south in large numbers.

More annoyed. We’ve been getting a lot of cold winters. Screws up my best vacation. Christmas break is wonderful when it involves biking and swimming, it sucks when it involves snow on New Year’s Eve. And remember it’s desert snow, there’s not enough of it to actually do any “fun” snow things, it’s a visual reminder that we’ve got somebody else’s far inferior weather. We haven’t seen the right side of 70 degrees in over a week, and we aren’t expected to get there until the middle of next week. One year of this is an OK change of pace, but it’s been like 6 years in a row of this junk. You kind of feel lied to by the world. I want my 80 degree Christmases back.

Keeping cool requires electricity.
Keeping warm just requires burnin’ sumthin.

I know lots of you hate California, but we don't have air conditioners in our homes around here (SF Bay Area). Not too hot, not too cold, 95 percent of the time. No snow, rarely below 50 degrees and rarely above 90. Usually about 70. We're experiencing a cold snap this week, 47 degrees outside, one of those rare nights it's below 50. Inside, about 64 so a sweater or blanket takes care of that. That's why people live here.

The important part there is “snow”, hate the stuff, don’t want to be anywhere near it, studiously avoid it.
