I'm always surprised at how many libs/leftists will tip their hands by assuming you are in agreement with their cloudy, radical musings (bleeping Republicans, Terrorist Tea baggers, etc.)...

Then when you mildly pose a question or two, which I often do, without revealing my own views, they will happily confess that they don't follow the news, that it is all just "too depressing".

If they do catch anything at all it is, as you say, the sublimely dishonest NPR which coaxes and coaches them ever farther, ever more blindly left.

At the same time, Wolf is the most "balanced" face at CNN. Even though he is clearly a hard lefty, every one else is so far out to the "bizarre" just-out-of-Berkeley or Al-Jazeera left (and anti-Israel) he is the only one giving CNN a semblance of credibility.

Yes. Modern liberals, including the President, are not interested in the old “liberal” priciples of open-mindedness, experimentation, and logic.
For instance if THEY should choose to talk about Al Gore’s “Hockey Stick,” for which he won a Nobel Prize,

they immediately explode,
or - if it is the holidays - they will drive drunk for hours to escape their own shame.

I’ve noticed that too, namely, “Progressives” think everyone else thinks exactly like they do. I just nod my head while they blather on revealing their “Progressive” predilections, and then change the subject to the business at hand, never biting on their desperate attempts to enjoin me in their conservative-bashing nor revealing what I really think.
