Amazon.com AMZN 0.00% turned in its worst year on the market since 2008, taking a big bite out of founder Jeff Bezos personal net worth.
Chief Executive Bezos saw his Amazon holdings lose about $7.4 billion in value over the course of the year as the e-commerce giants shares fell more than 22%. Still, Bezos 84 million shares, equal to 18.3% of the company, will ring in the New Year with a value of roughly $26.1 billion.
Shareholders punished Amazon for its free spending on projects such as the Fire smartphone and other gadgets and a widening network of warehouses close to urban centers. The company has admitted it botched the phones rollout, mainly blaming its price for slow sales.

No quibbles with my 59C USB cable.
Bezos apparently doesn’t give straight to politicians. But you can be guaranteed that he voted for O’Bummer — Bezos and his wife were big supporters of gay marriage in Washington State.
Bezos’ new acquisition, the Washington Post, will surely push for the highest possible taxes on evil one-percenters like Bezos.
That makes no sense.
If I wanted to control the media and I could afford to BUY the media...
Higher taxes make no sense, but the Washington Post still loves higher taxes. The “independent” editorialists will push for higher taxes no matter who owns the newspaper.
BTW, cut our cable 1st week of December...wish I'd done it years ago.
I order from Amazon probably twice a month or so.
There is NO WAY that company should be losing money!
Except for mismanagement!
I do not hold Bezos’ politics, Am I betting he has a good business head? Yup.
What was your problem doing this with two cards.
My son did it Christmas day with no problems.
Bezos is investing money to slay the media giants.
Netflix was the tip of the wedge.
Bezos is pouring in money.
...heh, unless you are talking about some TV show/series(which I don't know about)...and not the golf tournament.
I am sure he does. He’s worth several billion more than me :-)
I was about to say the same thing ...
Buyer beware has morphed into Seller beware. I don’t want to sell anything online through these companies.
#34 I have the Fire tv stick and I also have a Netflix account. Watching Netflix thru the Fire tv stick was disappointing. I thought the shows I saw were fuzzy, or dark or the video seemed slow.
When I use my Samsung Note tablet (wifi) they are sharp. When I use my desktop pc (cable) to watch Netflix they also look good.
I tried watching Amazon Prime shows thru my LG smart tv using the Netflix icon already there. Lousy picture so I bought the Chromecast and now the Fire TV stick.
With Chromecast and a pc and using the Chrome web browser and their app to view it on the tv, I can get a great picture on the tv. Using the tablet for Amazon Prime shows and either Flash or HTML5 for video the results were not good. I have 35 to 50mb cable speed.
For the Fire TV stick I think it is the video chip at fault. For the other devices I think Amazon degrades the video as they want you to use the Kindle.
Review: http://www.engadget.com/2014/12/04/fire-tv-stick-review/
Amazon is thinking that book writers are able to write in bulk as they have dropped the prices paid to the writers as they offer bulk purchases of books at one price per month.
I have heard the Amazon fire hardware is very good.
It is the proprietary software that I do not like.
Never messed with those USB sticks
They will never perform like a dedicated TV box.
