Much of that extra sunken heat will eventually be belched back into the atmosphere by the overheating seas.

Its 17 degrees here. I could do with a little heat. But we’re a long way from an ocean.

Global warming involves a lot of hot air - somehow I’m not surprised....

Thank you for referencing that article RBStealth. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

The article didn’t mention that deep-sea volcanoes are the biggest contributors to global volcanic activity.

FR: Deep-sea volcanoes don't just produce lava flows, they also explode!

So imo, the alarmist author of the article didn’t do his homework and overlooked that under water lava flow is probably a significant contributor to oceanic warming.

In my first Heat Transfer class many years ago, our final exam required us to calculate how long it took to cook a turkey in a 350 F oven. I explained how you could cook the turkey and let it rest for 20 minutes, but you had to then stand way back because all that cooking heat was going to be belched back out and the turkey was going to suddenly freeze, right there on the cutting board. If I recall correctly, I didn’t get 10 points for that solution. I may have even failed the course.

wow these liberals /democrats are huge liars.

global warming is a hoax

yeah you all here figured out the media lied about global warming but most of you here fell for the media's ebola is a threat lie. this means most of you still have no idea how evil and how big liars the news media are. the media is the problem. the news media purposefully manufactured the ebola is a threat lie to distract Americans from the election .of course there were many other lies but these are just 2 global warming and ebola. peak oil, ozone layer, ice age, global warming ,ebola threat to USA, eggs are bad for you, bird flue, and millions of other lies. the media creates the matrix

What scientists discovered in 2014 is that since the turn of the century, oceans have been absorbing more of global warming’s heat.

That's when Bush was elected! ** one man with the power to warm the oceans **

The seas have stored most of the excess heat generated by greenhouse gases since 2000, but they are due to send it back skyward

I spent many of my HS years reading Scientific American during the study hour we had. I enjoyed more than anything.

I find the inclusion of this article unbelievable.

Sounds like they should change their name to Witch Doctors of America.

Sad.

I can actually remember when Scientific American was a respectable, quality publication. Its decision to put politics ahead of reputable science is very depressing to me.

“continue to eat away at Antarctic ice”

Complete nonsense: Antarctic ice is at an all time high:

https://www.google.com/search?q=antractic+ice+all+time+high&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=Palemoon:en-US&client=palemoon#rls=Palemoon:en-US&q=antarctic+ice+all+time+high&spell=1

Oh, and the oceans have NOT been absorbing and “hiding” the so-called missing heat:

https://www.google.com/search?q=nasa+ocean+not+hiding+heat&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=Palemoon:en-US&client=palemoon

Direct NASA link with headline: “NASA Study Finds Earth’s Ocean Abyss Has Not Warmed”

http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.php?feature=4321

So, there’s NOTHING about this article that is scientific; it’s simply pure, unadulterated propaganda.

“What scientists discovered in 2014 is that since the turn of the century, oceans have been absorbing more of global warming’s heat and energy than would normally be expected, helping to slow rates of warming on land.”

NASA has debunked “deep ocean heating” and OHC (Ocean heat content) measurements since 2003 by ARGOS bouy system show a 0.02C per decade with a margin of error of about +-1C.

Seasonal variation is larger than any trend.

It’s a whole lotta nuthin’.

How wonderful...2015 will start with BS about Global Warming... I bet citizens in North Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado and a few other places would like warmth.

What scientists discovered in 2014 is that since the turn of the century, oceans have been absorbing more of global warming’s heat and energy than would normally be expected, helping to slow rates of warming on land. What they will be talking about in 2015, and beyond, is when that trend might come to an end—likely following a routine shift in Pacific Ocean trade winds. Much of that extra sunken heat will eventually be belched back into the atmosphere by the overheating seas.

This is such palpable nonsense.

The thermal capacity of water is quite well known. BTW, if they did not expect an observable effect, then their foolish models are hereafter invalid.
