I’ve seen other reports also of request for higher altitude.

Fox NEWS reported news conference with Indonesian who just said that there is an unconfirmed report that this plane crashed somewhere between Java and Sumatra.
So they’re feeling pretty sure the crashed plane is this one? It sounded like it probably was when the reports of it first showed up.
As soon as I saw the radar for the time the plane went down, it seemed like the weather was the main factor. That was some nasty weather.
Maybe this pilot was trying to pull a Sully since this particular Airbus is the same model as the one that Sully landed on the Hudson..I think the crash site is in Belitung or somewhere in that area..very sad just hoping that survivors are found
“...CNN is all over this. They are excellent when something big suddenly happens in the world - Im watching it now.”

Yes, CNN is all over it. Unfortunately they are only repeating the limited information we already have that has been discussed in this thread. But at least they’re on the air with it.
UPDATE: Airplane wreckage reportedly found east of #BelitungIsland in #Indonesia. There is no confirmation from #AirAsia as of yet.
With storms this nasty a second plane could be downed, but you’d think they would be talking about both planes being missing, not just one.
I don't worry about any of that, because the bloke at the front is in the aircraft with you and wants to get home safely.
You want to worry about something, worry about the happiness levels of the maintenance mechanics, and where they got their replacement parts.
Source? Flightaware’s last update showed it at 35K.
Yeah, tried to land on Belitung. Which way were the winds, out of the west?
Am looking at the island on google earth. Should be logistically easier than the last search.

Me too.....’great minds think alike...”..
don’t forget THe Black Hole. I believe someone on CNN mentioned that lol.
The general odds are awfully good in an airplane. Better than a car or boat or train. But they are not bulletproof. They shouldn’t have even been flying in this horrible weather. Stuff like this would have grounded flights in the USA.
Yeah I mean what are the odds that another plane crashed in the same general area..weather was terrible. My Mom just asked me a question, maybe someone here knows the answer, if they know that weather will be terrible in as certain location, why fly in that area? I mean flights are canceled here in the US all the time, bad weather, snow, etc
I know what you mean about the phrase, though. Not every qualifying phrase but many qualifying phrases just act as parsers to give the speaker right of denial or opportunity to deceive. Makes me think of Bill Clinton.
On this topic it makes me nervous not because it is a lie but because it is something you would prefer to be all or nothing. You might die but you won’t necessarily die.....sort of statement. Most people who have flown have experienced turbulence.
Airline Reporter.com has a panel showing them at 158 knots at 750 feet. That does not sound good.
BTW, do you recall the Airbus New York tail loss after 9/11?
There was also another Airbus going from Canada to the Caribbean IIRC that also lost a vertical stabilizer but managed to land safely by some great piloting.
Holiday crush, extreme desire to get the passengers out quick? However this storm was gone six hours later, they could have caught up.
