The fine-tuning necessary for life to exist on a planet is nothing compared with the fine-tuning required for the universe to exist at all. For example, astrophysicists now know that the values of the four fundamental forcesgravity, the electromagnetic force, and the strong and weak nuclear forceswere determined less than one millionth of a second after the big bang. Alter any one value and the universe could not exist. For instance, if the ratio between the nuclear strong force and the electromagnetic force had been off by the tiniest fraction of the tiniest fractionby even one part in 100,000,000,000,000,000then no stars could have ever formed at all. Feel free to gulp.
Multiply that single parameter by all the other necessary conditions, and the odds against the universe existing are so heart-stoppingly astronomical that the notion that it all just happened defies common sense. It would be like tossing a coin and having it come up heads 10 quintillion times in a row. Really?
Fred Hoyle, the astronomer who coined the term big bang, said that his atheism was greatly shaken at these developments. He later wrote that a common-sense interpretation of the facts suggests that a super-intellect has monkeyed with the physics, as well as with chemistry and biology . . . . The numbers one calculates from the facts seem to me so overwhelming as to put this conclusion almost beyond question.
Theoretical physicist Paul Davies has said that the appearance of design is overwhelming and Oxford professor Dr. John Lennox has said the more we get to know about our universe, the more the hypothesis that there is a Creator . . . gains in credibility as the best explanation of why we are here.

My goodness, this is the most enjoyable post I’ve read on FR in a long while. Thank you for taking the time.
I saved a copy of your post in my personal devotions. That is beautiful.
Thank you
infinity can’t be proven in the physical world due to our own current limitations
i’m afraid it just comes down to a matter of faith at this point
Thank you and God Bless.
Creationists could cite the same "evidence". What was is it they were supposed to be mad about?
Figures you’d resort to personal attacks. Typical and predictable. And sad.
Just because an attack is “personal” doesn’t mean it isn’t TRUE, and VALID, and applicable to the situation.
Does it make you feel smarter to tell other people how stupid they are?
no, but it makes me feel better.
Ever considered finding a more constructive way to get your warm fuzzies?
Oh, it’s not warm fuzzies - it’s the cathartic getting off of one’s chest issues that really irritate superior beings in ways inferiors cannot possibly understand. I don’t expect you too.
Go wash your Pharisee robes.
FTR, I do a LOT that is VERY constructive.
Hubris.
you’re so easy and predictable....I’m just messing with you now....your big fat red buttons are SOOOO EZ to push. You are definitely a left brained type B bureaucratic type thinker fo shizzle.
Again, we’re on two different planes here.......
The left brain shut off your access to the buttons. The insults and personal attacks that are supposed to manipulate me into an emotional response won't work. Peddle it down the road.
Back to your cubicle.
If it makes you “feel better” to have the last word, it’s yours. It is after all, all about “feeeeeelings”.
not even the same usage of the word, not that a bureaucrat would know.
Now, BACK to your cubicle. You meet with Dilbert at 3.
Knock yourself out, just don't expect everyone to blindly accept your version of God, or the Genesis of the universe. Not that you care, but I happen to believe the universe has always been here, in some form. That's my belief, but unlike you, I don't expect others to accept my beliefs. My beliefs on the workings of the universe are completely open to questions, that's how I learn new things about the world around us.
“I have no need to question it."
Do Muslims have any reason to have their faith in Allah questioned? They believe that Mohammad flew to the moon on a winged horse. Of course, many Christians still believe that Ezekiel flew up to heaven alive, in a chariot of fire. There's some real science all right. (/off sarcasm)
"If someone such as yourself wants to pose gotchas and puzzlers intended to undermine the faith of others, Ill engage. Your argumentation is adolescent and flailing."
-So says the man who engages in personal ad homonyms about my quote: "godlessness", simply because I stated to another person on this thread that I no longer believe the Bible's accuracy, regarding the creation. Particularly, the order as presented in Genesis. I wasn't even talking to you, you engaged me in this conversation.
Youve undermined the faith of no one here.”
- Can I ask Catholics questions about the history of The Church? No? Maybe say oh, just about 400 years ago, in 1599 AD, when the church threw Copernicus in jail, and tortured him? That's some real science there. But I'm guessing they thought Copernicus was possibly: "undermining someone's faith" about the order of the universe. Can't have that.
Interesting that people like you are always so afraid of any skepticism of the accuracy of the bible being 100%, word for word, the Divine Word of God.
I once was afraid to ask questions, to question things... mainly because I had a father who beat it out of me. I recall as a child asking questions of our ministers , and received nothing but anger from my father, when I asked if the destruction of various cities in the bible were just natural disasters, volcanic activity and earthquakes such as we see today, and not done by some angry invisible God.
So, I've dealt with bullies like you before:
We've seen them throughout history, and we see them in the middle east today, screaming, “Behead those that insult Allah." -And they do their evil deeds, (just like the Catholic Church did to Copernicus) right after they pray to their non-existent god Allah... Or do you believe that Allah is real too? No?
- call that "godlessness" + plus one, on your own part, I guess, eh? :-/
There are loving Christians, thankfully most Christians today are, because they are admonished to. But you, and many like you, aren't one of them. You're afraid of honest skeptics, you clearly don't tolerate unbelief, you deem that a threat to your fellow travelers. Why, I could possibly cause someone reading my post, to actually *think*, instead of just blindly believing that maybe the bible doesn't have any incongruity. Can't have that, that's heresy.
I got the backhand from a father who was afraid of me asking questions like I ask here. You and other people here, want to forget the historical events of only 400 years ago, when The Church threw Copernicus in jail, merely for the declaration that the earth wasn't the center of the universe.
You're a lot more like those of the Inquisition, then you realize.
