It is odd how every single political viewpoint has its own definition of “democracy”.
They use ‘governing’ in casual fashion but the implication is clear that they regard it as synonymous with ‘ruling.’
“Democracy” IS anti-American.
Pure democracy is Anarchy.
Or Mob Rule.
One of our greatest founders is said to have said that we have “A Republic, if you can keep it. “
A true democracy is merely mob rule. And when a political party looses control of the mob really bad things can happen. Read up on the Grecian city states(mainly Athens)or Rome during the period when it went from a republic to a dictatorship (Coleen McCollich has a nice 6 book series on Caesar that covers it quite well).
>>Pure democracy is Anarchy.<<
The tyranny of the mob.
Yes, they are right, Conservatives do treat the government as a threat, because it is one. We are in good company in our assessment:
“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.”
Patrick Henry
“The jaws of power are always open to devour, and her arm is always stretched out, if possible, to destroy the freedom of thinking, speaking, and writing.”
John Adams
“Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!”
Benjamin Franklin
Pretty much the same thing since mobs can and usually do turn on a dime then fall into chaos.
bookmarked for those billyjeff quotes
The “Founding Fathers” would see today’s Federal Government as a threat.
There was a time when anyone with a 6th grade education or higher understood the completely opposite concepts and why the Founding Fathers INTENTIONALLY designed a “REPUBLIC”!
I’m not against governing but I don’t call what they do in Washington “governing”. What they do in Washington is a crime and sadly both parties participate though the GOP is slightly less bold. A good example is the sequester. Even though it resulted in a very small cut in spending for the first time in decades both Democrats and even many Republicans were beside themselves at this even though it resulted in no appreciable degree of spending reduction. Even defense spending was still higher in real dollars than when both the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were going full steam under GW Bush yet from some GOP they were behaving like the military was being gutted. They used percentages of total spending to drive their false narrative and of course too many conservatives bought it. Governing does not equate to increased spending and increased bureaucracy. We have need for neither and haven’t for a long time.
DailyKos, convincing liberals that they are victims for 20 years.
We’re far from a strict democracy and thankfully so. We are a constitutional republic (or were). The founders in their wisdom put some of our most cherished rights beyond the reach of a simple majority - the bill of rights.
Kos should write about what they know about: white liberal elite 27 year olds...
Because it’s true.
Ironic, coming from a leftist rag that has its own agenda, maybe they ought do a little research as to where the real wolves in sheeps clothing live and ‘party’ today.
