“While GWTW is fictional, there were no black plantation owners to speak of,”
Back at ya. . .during the time James Bond was created “there were no [black Scottish secret agents] to speak of.
Want a black MI-5/6/8 agent, fine, just don’t call him (her or it) “James Bond.”

Aren’t the new Bond movies set in the present time.
It’s not that big a deal that the character and franchise are being modernized.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$
But do all the James Bond films take place “during the time James Bond was created”?
The right answer is no. As I stated earlier, the Bond film franchise has now transcended the original Fleming novels. Bond no longer needs to be a Scottish white male. Bond can now believably be virtually any demographic Hollywood wants him (or her!) to be, much like, say, the commanding officer in any Star Trek movie or series. No difference.
