The police officer who shot and killed a man on Tuesday in Berkeley, Missouri, was given a body camera but it was not activated at the time of the shooting, officials said today.
The shooting sparked new unrest in a region already reeling following an August police shooting a few miles away in Ferguson. About 200 to 300 protesters gathered at the gas station where Tuesday night's shooting happened.
When asked whether he was concerned that the officer's body cam was not activated, Berkeley Mayor Theodore Hoskins said he was "not concerned."

No...I heard it on TV and the radio.
According to an AP report, "Protesters rally for 2nd night after shooting near Ferguson":
The officer wasn't wearing his body camera, and his cruiser's dashboard camera was not activated because the car's emergency lights were not on, [St. Louis County Police Chief Jon] Belmar said.
“Is the next step declaring a State of Emergency, instituting Martial Law — and perhaps suspending elections? How far does the destruction of our society need to go to appease those who lust for power?”
Every generation has its version of Tyranny/Anarchy or freedom arguments.
In the 1970’s we had Kent State as the Apex of the Vietnam War. The “left wing” agitated the mind numbed dope smoking, long haired hippies.
The 1770’s had their answer to this type of Tyranny - Boston Tea party, Concord bridge - These peoples’ descendents moved on to party at Woodstock. They rebelled in Boston in the 1970’s when School busing was forced on the people of South Boston. Today they elect communists to socialize their medical care (Mit Romney, Patric Duval).
The Descendents of the American revolution, today they live in the South Eastern US and west to Texas, Oklahoma.
The rest of the country ????
The store camera was activated and shows the dead crook pointing a gun at the cop. One video is enough for me.
Thanks....ABC had a video and I saw what I needed to see but I hate sites like that. So much crap they force on you and waiting and crap and ads and crap and more crap for 5 seconds of proof.
Scanning twitter posts with the AntonioMartin hashtag
has people saying he was pulling out his smartphone/camera, not a gun (”photo light destroyed the gun theory!”), that Martin was alive for 30 min but not rushed to hospital, that body lay there for 2 hours
>>No ambulance for Antonio Martin really says it all
>>When a thug is shot dead the only medical care he or she needs is from a coroner
>>The #AntionioMartin case was completely avoidable and cops life matters too. You cannot negotiate with someone trying to kill you.
>>Could that have been his cell phone, and him videotaping the scene, in his hand?
Politicians must have body camera’s also.
stop stating the obvious...that simple fact doesn’t fit the criminal liberal media’s narrative...
It actually should be “Black Lives Sometimes Matter”.
“Black Lives Matter” if they’re decent.
I suspect after such technology has been implemented, the leftists would want it banned, 'cause it would show their babies actually committing crimes.
I am all for that. Record every stinkin word they ever say, and record every financial move they or their family make. I sm sick of corrupt politicians.
If you read the black lives matter cesspools on Twitter, you see “facts” like “every 28 minutes a black person is killed by the cops,” which would be 18,783.
I disagree. A body camera should see exactly what the LEO sees nearly all the time -- not always, but nearly always. Despite what Obama/Holder say, body cameras are not to protect the public, but to protect the LEO. Body cameras should be checked to make sure they work at the start of each shift, and if it suddenly stops working during an encounter, then LEO ought to have a lot of explaining to do.
In my county, all LEO have had cameras on their patrol cars for several years. As a result, the number of DWI prosecutions are down, but the number of convictions are up. Why, because the cops can no longer get away with embellishing truth in order to justify the stop and arrest, and the perps plead guildty when they see themselves on video swerving and staggering all over the road, and as a result the arresting officer's credability is no longer an issue.
It was an ambush gone bad. It looked like the perps were just lying in wait for the cop so they could execute him. Didn't work out quite the way they wanted.
The gas station VIDEO shows exactly what happened!!
Only if you are predisposed to believe the police version. Honestly, it's not a great video.
And, I'm 99.9% sure this was a good shoot.
Then they'll claim you can't trust it because it's their video.
“The gas station VIDEO shows exactly what happened!!”
Well, gee, not according to the massively biased ABC article, you know:
“the man’s arm appears to be raised but it is unclear whether he is holding anything”
Yeah, right. There’s no “appears” to it at all, the wannabe cop-killer clearly has his arm raised straight out in a classic shooting stance, but implied by ABC, he might just be aiming a stick of chewing gum at the cop, and that’s why the cop shot him.
The only way to solve the “camera not on” problem is to require that LEOs only carry sidearms that have a bluetooth link to the camera.
Camera not on, gun not shoot!
Same for Tazers.
