"If it wasn't her [who the statement was manufactured for] then whoever did [manufacture the statement] needs to work on their his grammar."

Oh man.

"Her" b/c the original post had the information that the statement was manufactured for her which is of course correct. Many times information like this is left out of normal conversation ... leading others to believe that "she" was the subject of a verb... but erroneous in part due to the information being left out of subsequent conversation bits [which is normal in spoken conversation.] But w/ posts separated and read by some but not all, and not in the same order, this confusion pops up.

"His" is absolutely what it should indeed be Bigg Red :) As I mentioned to someone else the other day... I have scars that show why I remember this garbage...

Ha, well-played.

To be honest, I did not pay full attention to the chain of comments and simply jumped on the correction. Yes, I am guilty here of hit-and-run posting.

But grammar is like so-last century and stuff.

"If it wasn't her [who the statement was manufactured for]

"her" goes along with "whom", and "she" goes along with "who". So "her [who" is wrong no matter how you cut it.

And, by the way, "weren't" is most proper, though archaic.

If it wasn't she...(the rest of the sentence is A-OK).

English grammar lesson: Subject + to be + nominative case (i.e., she, not her).

Rush often says (correctly) on his radio show: It is I (not It is me).
