I am furious, in pain, and deeply offended by those who laud this betrayal of the Cuban people as a great moment in history.
My family and native land were destroyed by the brutal Castro regime. In 1959, as an 8-year-old, I listened to mobs shout paredon! (to the firing squad!). I watched televised executions, and was terrified by the incessant pressure to agree with a bearded dictators ideals.
I am now a professor of history and religion at Yale University

"These are the principles that Raúl Castro is unwilling to renounce, which have driven nearly 20 percent of Cubas population into exile.
"Unfortunately, these are also the very principles that President Obama ratified as acceptable, which will govern Cuba for years to come."
This the best and most complete article on the abomination Obama has inflicted on the Cuban people and on us. Well worth the read.
Welcome to the club.
El Jefe, Obie-Won has announced that you can keep your Cuba.
In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way. Franklin D. Roosevelt
For Obama and his Communist handlers to open diplomatic relations with Communist Cuba at this time didnt happen without careful planning, so what could their agenda possibly be?
Could it be that with international oil prices plunging, Venezuelas economy is on the verge of collapsing, and Cubas anemic economy depends heavily on Venezuela for support? If Venezuelas economy collapses, Cubas economy will soon follow resulting in a flood of Cuban refugees arriving in Florida like never seen before, and, of course, Obama will be there to welcome another mass of victims into the Democrat/Communist Party USA.
This flood of Cuban refugees will have little or nothing in common with the previous flood of Cuban refugees who were fleeing Communism and are now registered Republicans in Florida. No, this flood will be nothing but hungry Communists looking for another Communist Dictator to take care of them...enter Obama.
Gee, as an American Exile, so do I.
The Øbamas and the Casrtøs are cut from the same cloth.
They’re parasites.
As a Cuban exile, you should have no problem recognizing a communist when you see him, even sitting in the White House.
A lot of Americans feel this way.
What 0bama and his fellow Democrats want for the usa (oh and total prohibition of private gun ownership as well)
You can only be “betrayed” by him if you trusted him to start with. Only fools (apparently about half the country) trusted the POS to start with.
Another group added to the I Been F’cked by Obama.
Probably, but I hope you are wrong. And of course, American companies like ADM will rush into Cuba
actually ADM has been sniffing up to Castro for more than a decade, interested in Cuba's fertile farmland and slave labor to till the fields and man the warehouses. The proceeds split between Castro, ADM, and Obama.
We are all American exiles now....
LOL. Actually, though, comments on WaPo articles and editorial lean right a lot of the time. So perhaps some genius in marketing noticed and told editorial to add some centrist and right-leaning material.
When we were in cuba in 2000, people on the streets were thrilled to see Americans, tho of course there were tourists there from other countries as well. Several Cubans told us that the people hated Castro and would have kicked him out within the first five years of his regime IF THEIR GUNS HADN’T BEEN CONFISCATED.
And there you have the REAL reason liberals want "gun control." To protect their false god the government and its priests (bureaucrats)
And there you have it. Try explaining that to liberals tho ..
+1. I couldn’t agree more!
Had I stayed in Miami instead of leaving home when I did, I might have married a Cuban.
I had crushes on a couple of Cuban guys in high school.
With one of these, Carlos, we used to hang out a lot together, park our ancient cars nose-to-tail, and visit each other's houses. I even attended a pig roast at his house.
One day, out of the blue, he tells me, "My mother says I can marry anybody except a Jew."
I was stunned. He had never touched or even kissed me. In retrospect, his mother's rejection of me helped me to dodge a bullet--because really, who the hell needs to marry into a family where they hate the religion you were born into--something over which nobody has any control? And I knew some Jewish Cubans growing up. I'm with a good man now, have been together for about 13 years.
