I have been in some pretty rough parts of town in recent years but I never go unprotected and I’m always aware of what is going on around me.

Yeah, same here. You get out of the "green zone" (immediate downtown-casino zone) and it all becomes pretty rough, pretty fast…and even rougher after dark. I've been out there at times.

Be prepared.

I’d really rather walk in a Detroit blackout than some parts of Chicago during the day. At least in Detroit I can legally return fire.

The neighborhoods around the downtown area are becoming gentrified and getting much better. The eastern neighborhoods at the edge of the city are among the worst.
