At least gold is inert in the body. HCl in the stomach does nothing to it, then the stool has little flecks of gold in it.

Exactly! And the gold is so thin, you do not even taste it.
But it is very decorative. Sweet Halva made of crushed cashews & pistachio’s and condensed milk covered with a gold leaf is to die for.
