Police will seek a criminal complaint in district court against a 27-year-old resident for threatening to commit a crime after police said he wrote the term "put wings on pigs" on his Facebook page.
The phrase is the same one that Ismaaiyl Brinsley used on Instagram just before ambushing New York police officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos on Saturday. The two officers were shot to death in their car, and Brinsley later committed suicide.
"In the eyes of every police officer in America today, 'Putting wings on pigs' is a threat," said Michael Wilk, Chicopee Police Department spokesman.
Members of the detective bureau will file a complaint with Chicopee District Court against Charles "Charlie" DiRosa, Wilk said.
If the court determines the complaint is valid, DiRosa will be summonsed into court for a trial, he said.
Wilk said the department was notified of the post by an anonymous message from someone who sent the police a link to DiRosa's Facebook account.
After a weekend in which the two NYPD officers were shot to death and officer Charles "Charlie K" Kondek was shot to death and run over by a suspect in Tarpon Springs, Florida, Wilk said the department was in no mood to treat DiRosa's Facebook post lightly.

I never post anything on facebook anymore. Nothing but trouble.
I’vr never even considered having Facebook page .
It’s useful for uploading pictures to the internet but I have seen more than a few people fired for making stupid posts so I don’t post anything there. NOTHING. EVER. At least here at FR, we’re relatively anonymous unlike facebook and, increasingly, the rest of the internet.
I post very little and keep it professional.
The guy is an idiot but he has a right to be an idiot.
I find it a bit troubling that the police can cite someone because they feel “threatened” by a post on Facebook.
I know who you are. Be afraid. Very afraid.
Looks like a selfie mug-shot. That could save the police some time when booking him.
He has that OWS look. What a surprise.
If you understand what “put wings on pigs” means, it takes on SERIOUS implications.
If that’s the perp’s actual photo, he looks like a snot nosed wannabe. But the individual who pulled off the Sandy Hook massacre of school children was also a snot nosed wannabe; as was the perp in the CO theater massacre.
It’s time we start taking these blatant threats seriously; BEFORE they’re actually carried out, and then we all stand around stunned muttering coulda, woulda, shoulda!
I find it a bit troubling that the police can cite someone because they feel threatened by a post on Facebook.
The problem is differentiating between a real threat and idle dumb chatter.
In my life time I've heard or said, "I'm gonna kill that dumsonabitch", no one meant it, but it was there.
Today's idle chatter is on social media and once posted, it never goes away.
"I gonna kill..." always looks worse in writing than when said between local associates.
Many people have never come to grips with the longevity of the posted word.
My mother gave me some advice a long time ago, back before the internet even. She said “don’t say anything that you wouldn’t be willing to have the whole world hear”. I try to heed that advice.
nice.
Unfortunately the statement, ‘Putting wings on pigs’ is protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (Freedom of Speech).
I do not see this going very far.
Gee, I always thought that phrase had something to do with Pink Floyd.
free speech and all that. This will go nowhere. The comment can’t possibly be considered threatening. this is nothing but a scare tactic to scare others back into line.
One of my favorite songs and favorite albums. I used to play it back in my college dorm daze so the police science guys on my wing could enjoy it too. I was kind of trouble maker back then. lol
So true. See tagline.
Ah, yes, the dormitory stereo wars. Heh, heh, heh.
I have had a pewter winged pig for many years. It's about 2" long with a 3" wingspan. The wings are painted gold. It's quite lovely as it sits atop the display.
It's kind of sad that the phrase "when pigs fly" has taken a murderous turn. Well, there is always "when monkeys fly out of my..."
