Letter: Reparations would change the status quo of racism
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch ^ | December 13, 2014 | John Pachak

Posted on 12/22/2014 5:43:46 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

In 2014, there are people in America who hate their brown-, black-, red- and olive-skinned neighbors. This bigotry becomes racism and permeates the status quo if it is institutionalized. Racism is found in public schools and the criminal justice system, for example. It creates two separate and unequal societies — one white that works and one black that suffers.

People talk about changes the events in Ferguson may bring. The governor appoints a commission to study the issues. Articles appear every day from journalists, educators and politicians decrying the inequality and calling for one school system, a public review board for police, a higher minimum wage for fast-food and entry-level workers and greater access to college education without the unfair burden of enormous student loans.

While these are valid suggestions for change, they will not affect institutionalized racism in the United States. Such changes would carry forth the racism bound to them. Changing racism requires a different perspective about the people who are stigmatized. A perspective change means understanding racism is part of the status quo, finding it unacceptable and creating a new worldview....

Oh gag me with a spoon. I’m tired of the entitlement mentality possessing these idiots in the absence of a work ethic.

“institutionalized racism”

In other words we’re never off the hook. Ever.

So screw ‘em.

Translation....20 trillion dollars of wealth redistribution over the last 40 years just isn't enough.

In 2014, there are people in America who hate their brown-, black-, red- and olive-skinned neighbors.

There certainly are.

But there are orders-of-magnitude more who hate their white-skinned neighbors.

Here is some information I bet you don’t find in today’s school books.

The U.S. government had a Civil War era slave census, and it showed that 1.4% of households owned one or more slaves, and a very small subset of those had more than 5 slaves. You can get your information from a reliable source like www2.census.gov/prod2/decennial/document... You might also read former Virginia Senator Jim Webb’s book, Born Fighting, for corroboration of these numbers.

There were 5,447,220 southern whites of which approximately 76,000 owned 3,521,110 slaves or about 46 slaves per owner. Approximately 2000 of the 132,760 free blacks also owned slaves.

I want reparations for my Irish ancestors who were discriminated against and went to forced servitude.

Reparations? Isn’t that what we’re doing with the Earned Income Tax Credit? And that annual give-away follows after the Pigford settlement for any black American who was savvy enough to claim that they tried to farm.

We’ve been doing reparations for years. We just don’t call it that.

How much cash would it take, per capita, to be distributed to each confirmed descendant of slaves, for those descendants (and all their descendants) to permanently lose the right to bitch and moan and blame all their problems and failings on racism? Forever. Race would forevermore be erased, as a government form check-box, and as a topic of discussion, from society.

If there is a reasonable sum that all parties can agree on to meet these criteria, by all means let’s discuss it.

So what happens after the Trayvons spend all their reparations?

More reparations?

And then after they spend all that?

IMO, 80% of blacks should be put on a 1-way boat to Africa.

If reparations are wanted, then the would be recipients should look to the descendants of the Muslim slave traders for “reparations. They were the ones who rounded up hapless African tribesmen and sold them into slavery per the Koran.

Call me a liberal, but I believe we should give reparations to every freed slave living in this country.
