English MP (Member of Parliament) Daniel Hannan, famous for his speech the devalued Prime Minister of a devalued government, is no stranger to controversy.
As a member of the European Conservatives and Reformist Group, he often says things that runs against the grain of prevailing sentiment in elitist circles.
In this speech, posted on December 9th of this year, Hannan sets out to prove how the infamous German fuhrer Adolf Hitler was not a man of the right, but a different type of socialist.
Mr Hannan opens, Ladies and gentleman, who said this? I am a socialist. And a very different kind of socialist from your rich friend Count Reventlow.
As Hannan points out, while socialists and fascists, two different kinds of authoritarian collectivists, fought one another for power, both groups were hostile to the classically liberal true right which stands for individual freedom.
I imagine the left had no problem with the Nazis until they turned against Stalin and violated the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.

See thread #22 in the above link for a great little chart to describe the differences to your liberal friends.
You are correct. There was left wing opposition to the US entering WWII or even providing military aid to Great Britain, and other European countries until Germany invaded
the USSR on June 22, 1941 (Operation Barbarossa).
wow!
This is a very well spoken, educated gentleman.
For anyone who takes the time to watch the video - doesn’t the sort haired woman who interrupts him look familiar?
You may never have been to England but you will recognize this woman from every city council meeting, every school committee meeting or town hall gathering.
She is everywhere: shrill, bitter, angry woman who knows what’s best for one and all. Will stick her finger in your face if possible and would if given a chance stick the likes of us in a camp.
Good post...thanks
That was a major reason why France was so unprepared for war in 1940, and folded up as quickly as they did once Germany invaded. There was a strong Communist element within France, the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany were allies at the time, and they interfered with French rearmament at every turn.
Also, there was a strong admiration of Naziism among much of the French population; many saw it as a bulwark against the Communists, and also there was widespread admiration of Nazi Germany’s appearance of order and accomplishment of rebuilding a broken nation.
Precisely.
Somewhere, someone did a comparison between the Democratic Party platform and that of the Nazis in the 30s....
Amazing similarities.
I saw that. Didn't save it
bump
Not an MP, he is an MEP, Member of European Parliament.
This is exactly what I have been reading about as fascism was just another variant of socialism. Basically the fascists were just basically going after the communists for power. But it is all the same ball of wax.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be "cured" against one's will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.

The notion that National Socialism (and Fascism) were “right-wing” was concocted by the Communists. It is preposterous, of course. Hitler and Mussolini were both Marxists. And one would be hard-pressed to find a classroom anywhere in the world where this Communist canard is not taught.
Actually, the Party Line was anti-Hitler before the pact, pro-Hitler during it, and then anti-Hitler again. I forget who it was I was reading (not David Horowitz—he’s too young) but he was old enough to remember his Red Diaper teachers in the NYC schools, who became pro-Hitler overnight, then anti-Hitler overnight.
Actually Mr. Hannan is European Parliament Member.
Also, the French I think suffered so much during WWI that they almost preferred peace at any price. I reread the “Rise and Fall of the Third Reich,” it was either Keitel or Jodl that noted when Germany invaded Czechoslovakia, the French has 80 divisions to Germany’s six or seven on the Western front. If France invaded in response to that attack, Germany and Hitler would have fallen.
To a Marxist, National Socialist means Right Wing capitalist.
