Fuel cans from hell

Posted on 12/21/2014 8:20:29 AM PST by rey

What is wrong with environmental wackos that they think the laws of physics do not apply to them?

The screwy new fuel cans that have no vent are impossible to use. Supposedly the vent will release something undesirable into the air but as that vent is only open when the can is I cannot imagine having a vent is worse than having the can open. Without a vent, the can sort of glugs splashing fuel about, certainly more harmful that vapors and more wasteful.

Typical moronic ideas based on desires and not reality.

They would have to have that voluptuous sales pitch no? Who is looking at the can?

I, too have seen gas cans become essentially unusable. I simply removed the locking mechanism on the side of the fill trigger. A pair of side cutters made short work of it. Now it can be operated with one finger with complete control, and no annoying lock mechanism!

Regulator’s common sense long ago collapsed.

It is impossible to “idiot proof” anything.

As babygene said, I go to garage sales or thrift stores, and make note of the older cans with simple spouts. IF it will screw onto one of the newer cans then just use the newer type with it`s sealing cap adapter and pitch the spout portion, using the older spout to pour. If not then get a good funnel. I`ve rigged mine with a fuel resistant hose attached via a hose clamp. I agree this is an issue as a number of stores such as the Giant Eagle chain offer 'fuel perks' points for discounts at their 'Get Go' chain of stations.

These cans rank high on the Stupid Tin Hat Enviro-whacko Feel Good list along with CFLs and low flush toilets.

Hook one into an outboard motor and leave it in the sun for any length of time and you will overpressure the system. When you unhook it you will get a gush of gas into the bilge. Boats will be catching fire thanks to this enviro BS!

Go to Ebay and buy some Nato metal fuel cans. Make sure you get the flexible spouts.

For some reason, using enviro spouts is not required when filling up military vehicles.

“After spilling fuel all over the lawn mower I found a funnel.”

I have funnels too. But the design of my can makes them hard to use. Also, since I can’t see in the tank, I often over fill it. I used to have an old can with a spout that worked. Never spilled a drop.

A friend with a dangerous government job, lighting and putting out fires, (only a government job would do both) said that the rules intended to make them so safe nobody could get hurt actually put them in danger.

The screwy new fuel cans that have no vent are impossible to use.

Seems like a drill bit and a rubber plug would solve the engineering problem nicely.

Thanks to all the government mandated “Improvements” a $5 plastic gas can now costs $20 or more. A metal one is $45 - $50. And they have those OPEC required cumbersome gizmos on the spouts.

Make your own vent in a plastic gas can.

Drill a fair sized hole in the handle where the older cans had a vent. Make it a tight fit for a #12 or #14 sheet metal screw or small hex head 1/4” bolt to screw in as a plug.

I’m just a few hours from Sherbrooke PQ, so I buy all my gas cans there.

It’s amazing that Canada is less crazy than the Etats-Unis.

For cheap money I bought blue water cans for fuel use. I just place labels on them. They are just like old style gas cans with a flex spout and vent.

You can buy valve stems for truck wheels at most auto parts store. I used a pair of long curve nosed pliers to hold the nut while I was threading it into a hole I drilled in the top of the can.

The new design is NOT an enviro-whacko product.

It is a Nanny-Safety product.

Some idiot literally poured gas on a fire and the flame naturally back-tracked and blew-up.
He sued and won, so this design is to remedy THAT “problem”.

So, when this version is outlawed, you won’t be able to transport or store gas.

Which is what the fascists want in the first place.
