I have no idea as to why Sessions is suddenly lying down on this. He should be hopping mad and raising hell, but instead is meekly congratulating his "good friend" Enzi for usurping him.

What's up with THAT?

As I recall, there was a similar situation in 1985 with Senators Helms and Lugar, and Helms pulled seniority on Foreign Relations though Lugar had been the ranking member for the previous two or four years. Helms had been chairing Agriculture but switched to Foreign Relations in 1985. Then he was out as chairman in 1987 because 1986 was a huge Democrat year even before hapless voters knew of Iran-Contra.

Sessions is above all things a gentleman. He knew he was screwed so he decided to keep his powder dry for more important things. He is pretty low key until he gets his dander up. When the real battles come he will be in the front line, standing for the American people.

Because Enzi has seniority and the system is run on seniority. He knows he can’t win, that he isn’t a favorite.

On the other hand, I do assume that he will not shut up.
