I’d read Shelby Foote’s account of Fredericksburg and I admired Pelham’s role, as many do. As it turns out I had an ancestor at Fredericksburg but it wasn’t Pelham.

When they went to spend the summer at their dacha, the mom would go for a walk with the fox in her arms because it was small and subject to predators.
When that summer was over, the family returned to the city and left the little fox behind, entrusting its care to a neighbor. The little fox disappeared and was never seen again.
They had named the fox Aliska.

I was on my annual Thanksgiving vacation to the Central California coast....on my hostess’ computer (before traveling laptop), in my allotted hour. All of a sudden we had to sign in with a screen name. Having no creativity, and very little computer time, that’s all I could think of....boring, but accurate. d:o)

Jonathan and David illustrate the sweetness of a true friendship. The Bible records an intimate and immediate bond between them (1 Sam. 18:1). They kept their friendship alive by demonstrating their loyalty to each other (18:3; 20:16, 42; 23:18), as well as nurturing it by expressions of concern. Jonathan gave gifts to David (18:4) and watched out for him through many difficulties (19:1-2; 20:12-13).
In 1 Samuel 23:16, we see the highest moment of their friendship. When David was a fugitive on the run from Jonathan’s father, “Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David in the woods and strengthened his hand in God.” Friends help you find strength in God during the low points of life.
In a world where most relationships are about what we can get, let us be the type of friends who focus on what we can give. Jesus, our perfect Friend, demonstrated for us that “greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13).

I was nick named The Mayor of my little town by a guy from Buffalo. So I kept it, my friend died suddenly a couple years ago. I miss you Sam Chicha.
We were honoring him as businessman of the year and as he thanked everyone he said. And of course Thanks goes to Rus, the mayor of Grand Island. There were politicians there that did not appreciate that at all... :)
