Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) is on a roll. First, his team insists Republicans can win the presidency without independent voters (we really must be failing to teach math in this country), and now he says he is an innovative start-up:
On Fox Newss Special Report on Tuesday, host Bret Baier asked the senator how hes handling the criticism. You know, in some level, Ill agree with what they said, Cruz said. I am not trying to play the rules of Washington. Because I think Washingtons broken I think its profoundly broken and I think the only answer is to change Washington.
Cruz compared his tactics to disruptive tech apps. Lets take, for example, Uber coming in or Lyft coming into a city, he said. Whenever that happens, the existing providers fight like cats and dogs. The taxi commissions have done everything they can do kill Uber and Lyft.
Where to begin?
Most obvious, there is nothing new or unique about a blowhard politician grabbing the limelight to promote himself. Talking on the Senate floor for hours, telling a narrow sliver of the base what it wants to hear, justifying ones failures (e.g. the 2013 shutdown) as great successes and playing the role of vicious partisan are as old as the hills. He harkens back not to Ronald Reagan, but to Barry Goldwater (before Barry Goldwater was cool for social libertarianism).[continued]

Jennifer, Ted Cruz graduated (with high honors) from a much better college and law school than you did. Are you really trying to imply that you are smarter than he is? Hahahahahaha! He clerked for both an appellate judge and a CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE U.S. SUPREME COURT Jenny! Who'd you clerk for? He's won dozens of major cases in the Supreme Court!
Not her again. She gives me a headache.
Nailed it!
The idiots in the beltway probably think Rubin is a real genius, too.
What would I do without knowing what Jennifer Rubin is thinking about Ted Cruz?
My oh my, I don’t think I could even get up in the morning with Jennifer telling me what to think about Ted Cruz.
Thank you Jennifer! I feel so much better now! NOT!
Intelligent snark is a boon but Rubin can’t muster it. She just trots out the same Wash Post bitchiness every column.
She's about as conservative on social issues as DeBlasio and Valerie Jarrett.
BTW Jenny, Get some new teeth. The ones you are sporting make George Washington’s smile look like a dentists best work!
Jennifer Rubin, so smart she is surprised Jeb Bush is running for POTUS!
Jenny does not know the difference between independent and indifferent. Independents will split 70/30 for a true conservative republican. The wishy washy middle of the road is not worth considering since its adherents do not consider anything of value. Appealing to them is akin to seducing marshmallows.
I always count on getting the take on conservatives from Jennifer Rubin. Yeh that’s the ticket. :-)
Cruz graduated cum laude from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy[33] from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in 1992.[6][5] While at Princeton, he competed for the American Whig-Cliosophic Society’s Debate Panel and won the top speaker award at both the 1992 U.S. National Debating Championship and the 1992 North American Debating Championship.[34] In 1992, he was named U.S. National Speaker of the Year and Team of the Year (with his debate partner, David Panton).[34] Cruz was also a semi-finalist at the 1995 World Universities Debating Championship, making him Princetons highest-ranked debater at the championship.[35][36] Princeton’s debate team later named their annual novice championship after Cruz.[35]
Cruz’s senior thesis on the separation of powers, titled “Clipping the Wings of Angels,” draws its inspiration from a passage attributed to President James Madison: “If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.” Cruz argued that the drafters of the Constitution intended to protect the rights of their constituents, and the last two items in the Bill of Rights offered an explicit stop against an all-powerful state. Cruz wrote: “They simply do so from different directions. The Tenth stops new powers, and the Ninth fortifies all other rights, or non-powers.”[31][37]
After graduating from Princeton, Cruz attended Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 1995 with a Juris Doctor degree.[6][38] While at Harvard Law, Cruz was a primary editor of the Harvard Law Review, and executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and a founding editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review.[5] Referring to Cruz’s time as a student at Harvard Law, Professor Alan Dershowitz said, “Cruz was off-the-charts brilliant.”[18] At Harvard Law, Cruz was a John M. Olin Fellow in Law and Economics.[39]
Nice one.
RINOs keep repeating this line. I call BS.
They haven't an original thought in their heads, nor do they any longer offer ANYTHING resembling a conservative solution to the mess this nation is in.
Get out of the road, Jennifer, before whats coming runs you over.
To the contrary, its the RINOs that Rubin supports publicly saying they can win without conservatives.
Go Ted go! Crush islam! Restore America!
There’s a thin line between snark and bitchiness, and Jennifer seems to cross it with no signs of stopping every time.
