Russia shoppers have been panic-buying everything from cars to flat pack furniture today after stores warned of price hikes at the weekend following a sharp fall in the value of the rouble. Several Ikea stores have been forced to close after the company warned its prices will go up from tomorrow, while cars and home appliances have been bought in record numbers. The rouble has slid 15 per cent in just two days, hitting an all-time low of 80 to the dollar at one point yesterday, prompting fears of a run on Russian banks.

You are also forgetting Republicans like McCain, Boehner, McConnell, etc. They are actually HELPING the Democrats and Obama. The Republican party (GOPe) is just as much to blame. We need to remember that.

The media is by far the most powerful and they are all ultra rabid leftists democrats. the media can get everyone talking about anything be it ebola (what happened to that fake crap lie?) , cosby, robbin williams , that football player hitting his wife in the elevator.

the media had all of you here fooled about this ebola crap. there was never any threat. the media manufactured this ebola threat for the election. notice that suddenly after the election there is no ebola threat anymore .the media had all of you here jumping about ebola.the ebola lie was to distract Americans from the bad economy during the election. it was a totally manufactured lie expressly for that reason . and all of you here and all Americans fell for it. the media creates the reality we live in a false reality . you believed in ebola threat. admit it. a lot other thiings you believe are planted there by the media and are total lies.

Is it possible this is a designed retaliation by the U.S. over the Ukraine invasion and massive public support in Russia for Putin?

By the multitude of ways this regime has shown its prowess on the world stage over the past six years...not possible.

Pictures from the capital Moscow showed people with trollies filled with televisions, toasters, and furniture ahead of stores putting their prices up, while other waited in long lines at checkouts.

We solve this issue with race riots. Who said America has forgotten how to innovate?

The USA is in it’s crash now and considering the situation, carrying it off quite well.

We have about 8-9 years to go to get out of this. There will be ups and downs in the meantime.

But we will get out of it by 2023-2025. Demographics is destiny and energy is power. Get ready for another century of American economic dominance.

What fools to rush out to buy cars and cheap furniture. Their kids won’t get full bellies from cardboard. That means the sensible Russians won’t have to fight the crowds in the beans and rice aisle at the grocery store or the emergency supplies and seed section at the hardware store.

If money is going to lose its value, it makes sense to purchase big-ticket items before it does. Quality and availability of items can also be an issue when an economy tanks.

If this were to happen here, I'd make any major purchases that I'd planned to put off for a few years.

I suspect its global at this point that most people who have the ability to do so are already stocked up on the necessities.

Be very careful making fun of the situation in Russia.

A cornered bear is a very dangerous animal.

We are in a disadvantage if Russia were to attack, considering who or what our CIC is.

We are already have our hands full with the muzzies, domestic and abroad.

You think that our debt suddenly this week caused the price of the ruble to decline dramatically and not the Saudis and OPEC?

You see this is the problem we face today. So many people cannot think critically. If something bad happens to Putin, it must be our fault. Trust me. Obama's debt to our already massive debt didn't cause OPEC to keep production high. I didn't lead to sanctions against Putin for his crimes in Ukraine. And it didn't cause the vast crony crimes that compound Russia's plight.

Assume the lowering tide of the global economy sinks all ships. Do you really think most of the US population will have better survival skills than most of the Russian population has?

Keep in mind that Russia has a small population for its size, and most of it is integrated into the economy and society. Besides that, living through economic hard times is not that far in their pasts.

This is unchartered territory. WW3 is a global economic war, with the battles being fought as terrorist attacks. Besides economic chaos, there's the threat of epidemic disease going global, millions of people in refugee camps, and huge segments of the global population unproductive.

Who stands to benefit? Saudi Arabia? Germany? There's stuff going on we can't even begin to understand.

Sure, buy that new tv before the price goes up because it isn’t like you don’t already have three perfectly good tvs. That new tv might have bought a few more weeks of electricity to heat the house and cook meals. Most of the furniture in my house is 100 years old. It’s stood up this long, it should last through the next crisis. If not, I’d rather sit on the floor than not feed the kids.

I'm in the same place as you are. When bank interest on savings went down to near-zero I made all of those long-term purchases. But if I hadn't, I think I'd get them done now, before inflation or availability become issues.

As far as purchasing those big-ticket items goes, the thinking could be that they'll be worth more in the future than rubles will be.

This isn’t a good thing.

Remember what happened to countries who last had hyperinflation during the 1920’s. People looked to a central strong man to solve things.

Russians have that tendency anyway.

Russian bear cornered

This could be dangerous.
Putin is unstable and a tyrant - he has already started wars in three countries and killed more Europeans than Al Qaida.
