In the most shocking development yet, the Sony attackers have threatened a 9/11-like attack on movie theaters that screen Seth Rogen and James Francos North Korean comedy The Interview.
They also released the promised Christmas gift of files. The contents of the files are unknown but its called Michael Lynton, who is the CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
The world will be full of fear, the message reads. Remember the 11th of September 2001. We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time. (If your house is nearby, youd better leave.) Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment

So you think that it is due diligence to keep production versions of the movie on a computer accessible to the internet? If that was a pile of cash sitting in a locked Lexus instead of in a safe, this too would be acceptable to you?
They had valuable property exposed. If I was a shareholder, I'd be filing a lawsuit right now.
I'm all for dropping a nice 20,000 pound bomb on the perps, but I'm also all for holding the company accountable for deplorable security, especially after SO MANY hacking incidents in the company. Besides, the extra hit to the company's cash would mean they wouldn't have quite so much money to fling at liberals.
Passwords are like toothbrushes. Don't let anyone use yours and get a new one every six months.
F-The N. Koreans.
Because making your CEO, and top staff (as well as released pirated information) is standard viral marketing procedure.
I wondered the same, but the FBI is involved and if you involve them in your PR campaign, all participants go to jail.
So they're not participating, but in exchange for some uncomfortable moments, they're getting the best ad campaign a movie ever had.
If it is then Sony is screwed either way.
Well the hack is real enough, but much of the crap since then sure stinks to high heaven of attempts to prop up a stinker film.
I have got to see this movie! Where can I download it for free, now that NK has hacked it?
If it turns out Sony is in any way involved in this crap as some kind of publicity stunt then their top executives need to do hard prison time.

Anyone think this rhetoric ISN’T from North Korea?
How about: Sony attackers have threatened a 9/11-like attack on movie theaters.
No death threat?
You must have different memories of 9/11 than I.
Do it.
That many DDOS’s will open you up to a mousetrap by White Hatters.
Perfect! Setup a fake theater, advertise heavily, taunt the scum, load the theatre with the viewers as SWAT personnel only, and wait. A flycatcher!
Now that I think about it.
They are going to have to know an awful lot about how each system works, their firewalls locally, at the WAN or Metro and then insert themselves into a VPN.
Sohhh, for instance, if it’s SUYFY theater chain they are going to have to break into them first and distribute to each node, with knowledge of topology of each node.
Or....They could simply break into SUYFY Corporate and re-mark there...Hmmmm....
If they are on MPLS I’d like to see that trick though. Not sure how that would be possible if they segregate the machine to the WAN only, with no other connection possible.
Then again, if they marked up the originals and SONY distributes they could, maybe, do it from there but, SONY only needs to take their vault version and re-master.
Guess I’ll go to the theater and watch what looks to be a pretty lame movie anyway...just to see.
If they are successful I’ll demand a refund and go see what I wanted to see in the 1st place.
It’s on torrent now I believe...
Should I be worried when I rent this movie from Redbox?
