WASHINGTON - Stepping into an elevator on his way out of the U.S. Capitol Friday night, Kentucky Republican Mitch McConnell - the next Senate Majority Leader - bid reporters farewell. "See you Monday," he said.
By agreement with Democrats, a budget showdown risking a potential government shutdown had been pushed back a couple of days, creating breathing room for senators in both parties while they made plans for a pre-holiday weekend.
Sen. Ted Cruz had other ideas.
In a maneuver that would put the junior Republican senator from Texas at the center of another high-stakes political drama, Cruz pressed a constitutional point of order to block funding for President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration.
The move, dismissed as futile by leaders in both parties, ignited an instant uproar in the halls of Congress, further burnishing Cruz's image as a tea party firebrand less concerned with pragmatic lawmaking than ideological warfare.
While the political wisdom of Cruz's action will long be debated, veteran GOP strategists said there is little doubt it would play well to the conservative base he needs to cultivate if he runs for president in 2016. At the same time, analysts say it could further damage his prospects for working to advance a constructive agenda with a new Republican leadership intent on shedding Congress' image of dysfunction.
"What's bad for him in Washington is good for him everywhere he needs to win to be the GOP nominee," said Steve Deace, a syndicated radio host based in Iowa, the first-in-the-nation presidential caucus state. "I don't think there are enough words in the English language that adequately describe how much Washington, D.C., is hated by everyone outside Washington, D.C."

It's been 20 years of capitulations, lies, cowardliness and RINOs.
Jeb Bush to the rescue.
LOL. That would be absurd.
Cruz to the rescue.
Cruz 2016
Cruz MISSILE!!
Aimed at the Dems, RINOs, GOPe and any that adhere to those miscreants’ tenets!
YES!!!
It is sad to see the republican leadership so adamant about getting back to business as usual just a month after voters delivered a strong message that they want to see significant changes in the direction congress and the senate have taken the country.
The republican leadership seems to not want anyone to rock the boat so they can keep the gravy flowing while they replace democrats at the pig trough.
When the dems had the senate, it was reported as shrewd political maneuvering and posturing to get zero's stuff passed.
To 0 (a.k.a. the Pres__ident)
Oi!
Since when does the Pres__ident dictate policy reserved to the congress???
EH ???!!!???
That would absolutely be the ideal situation with the both of them at the top of the Senate and Congress.
Well, I think Reid has ALWAYS done 0bama’s bidding. Both Reid and Pelosi, good communists that they are, have their own bodies buried somewhere.
Cruz is drawing a line between him and Washington DC. That is the winning contrast.
Ted!!!!
bump
Hmmm......
Bodies buried....as in skeletons in the closet...
Reid and Pelosi have been around long enough that they have skeletons buried... that they don’t want uncovered... and therefore are subject to blackmail.
Now, if we have (and get) folks in congress without such ‘baggage’, then isn’t there an inherent advantage??
GO CRUZ!!
"Responsible leadership"
"Next Republican candidate for POTUS...
Jeb Bush is not written in stone (in English OR Spanish)...
we want a conservative."
“dirty coward” makes one think of Bob Ford, who gunned down Jesse James. But the appellation could easily apply to the No. 1 Kentuckian too.
I think TX native Jebbie would win the TX primary against native Canadian Cruz, but I wish it were not so.
I like that idea but I didn’t make the graphic. Just posted it.
I love Ted Cruz!
Plus it’s time for a Hispanic President.
We’ve had the black one. Epic fail!
