If you, like this author, always dreamed of using a camo-covered, Army-issue Humvee as your personal golf cart, your dreams can finally come true for a price.
According to the Army Times, the Department of Defense will start auctioning off as many as 4,000 military-spec Humvees to the public as part of its surplus-reduction efforts. In previous years, the off-road behemoths would have been sent straight to the military scrapyard, but due to changes in policies in recent years and what the Defense Logistics Agency spokesperson Michelle McCaskill describes as cooperation from other government offices," the used Humvees will be sold instead of scrapped for the first time.

You would not want to drive them on the street anyhow they top out at like 65 70 mph and that is with the motor howling in revs.
I have driven tons of them on and off road.
They suck on the road.
They suck off the road too at 7 foot wide.
Yabut they don't have carburetors, thank God.
Totally agree. Fine for the desert, not much else.
I could have my Willys CJ5 and AMC CJ7 restored frame up to near perfect for less, well maybe not for a whole lot less. I’m picky about what I will accept.
That’s almost 3 FEET wider than a Jeep CJ.
And virtually every off road trail in America is cut to the width of a jeep.
As in Connecticut, they have a "Dept of Reconstructed vehicles" ( aka kitcars rods etc ) that inspects them so you can get registration.
Depending upon the state(s) I can see some entrepreneur coming up with what maybe needed to get them legal and or spare parts. I'm thinking wiring harnesses for lighting ( if needed ) and whole SBC LS engine kits etc or they do it turn-key...
Air conditioning and rich Corinthian leather?
GM made those too, up in London, Ontario if I remember right.
Notice those extra comfy orthopedic seats....
If the PD at the city I once worked for had the Humvees it would have saved the taxpayers thousands of dollars in new transmissions. Those Crowns Vic’s have a serious design flaw on the transmission pan that when it comes in contact with the concrete curb after jumping it at pursuit speed thus driving a small pin into the transmission which destroys it.
Damn Ford engineers anyway...
I have driven them for years, and am no fan.
Yabbut, no one will get near you in the parking lot!
Yea, I had a CUCV truck that topped out at 45 mph. The gears were pretty tall 4.56:1.
Yes sir.
Love the LAV.
Much more fun to drive.
***No titles with them so cant be licensed for on road use.***
Take them down into Arkansas and for $50.00 you can get a nice clean title proving it was ONLY DRIVEN TO CHURCH on Sunday by your little old now deceased momma.
