Several people have been taken hostage by at least one armed man at a Lindt cafe in the centre of Sydney.
I had a client from Australia. She was here and afraid to go back to Sydney ten years ago because of marauding Amish .so you can only imagine how much more dangerous it is for a blonde woman today.
It’s nowhere near a total ban, but there are restrictions on firearms. What is most relevant here is that civilians carrying a handgun is very rare (not impossible, but one in 1000 people is probably an overestimate)
Actually, compliance to Australia's gun ban was dismal. Authorities expected 2.5 million guns would fall under the new laws. Only about 630,000 were turned in.
Thanks for the link——scary stuff.
The police seem to be well armed and prepared.
.
I’m not sure what they could do, but I hope the hostages find a way to go “United 93” on these savages and live to tell the tale.
So, it is the Australian Amish at it again?
Politicians are helping them by disarming us
The main news stations are not carrying this story in Sydney Au....not fox, OAN, or locals...where are these people??
Maybe Free Republic should be a news channel..
Surely it's not like that everywhere.
What about out in the Bush? Can't, I doubt there are very many of our Amish Friends there.
But wait, according to Hillary Clinton, we must feel empathy towards these “people”..I have the perfect way to handle scum like this..NUKE THEM
And nothing on Drudge! His site has been last to report on most breaking stories for the past few months. He used to be first, not so any more.
FOX finally getting the story.
Honestly, I think Australia is pretty safe. There are some pockets in the major cities where Muslims are common, but not that many.
Overall, it’s a small proportion of the population - but when there are people in that population who want to kill you...
If this is a islamic terrorist attack (I assume it is, but I’ll add the if), it’s the first real Islamic terrorist attack on our soil. The US has had them before. I think that overall we are probably a little safer than the US from these things in Australia.
The bigger threat has been things like the Bali bombing.
Chances are that there is a black market. Or, the terrorists smuggled them in from wherever it is they came, at least the parts anyways.
Although this is likely an isolated event, there’s always the possibility that this is a “diversion” meant to have authorities concentrate their resources here while a “main event” goes off elsewhere.
Sydney Opera House evacuated - BBC
There are dozens of shops in Sydney where you can legally buy a handgun. It’s not the time to go into American misunderstandings about Australian gun laws, but while they are bad, they are nowhere near a total ban.
An Australian gun owner.
The way forward is clear: Australia should let more boat people in.
Fox is our friend but can we admit they occasionally fall short of the mark on breaking news in favor of their usual ‘expert’ talking heads discussing what it all means?
