Several people have been taken hostage by at least one armed man at a Lindt cafe in the centre of Sydney.
That just can’t be - the Australian people gave up their guns some time ago ...
Why is this myth so persistent?
There are millions of guns in private hands in Australia.
I wish a couple of them were in the hands of people in that chocolate shop, but making out guns are banned here doesn't do anything except make us less safe by making it even less likely people will bother to do what they need to do to own them.
The Aussie citizens should require a license for politicians to be allowed to live. And the forms should be almost impossible to fill out properly.
One other poster said one gunman had on a vest (bomb), so I guess there are other bombs (devices) in other places....and one person said someone involved in terrorism was arrested in Australia earlier today, did you hear that or is that maybe just speculation.....
Now Fox has it at 13 hostages instead of the 20 they said earlier.
For me (and many others) FreeRepublic and Drudge ARE my news channels. If it's something I'd be interested in hearing about, it will be on FR.
Sydney is my birthplace. Although I am not there this hits close to home so to speak.
I have great respect for the special forces of any free nation....that is one difficult job, and so necessary.
Where I live in Colorado there are enough concealed carry permits and people who don’t go out without personal protection that with 13 hostages, the statistics would have 4 armed. My county has almost no crime too. Go figure.
Sidney News7 mentioned a anti-terror arrest occurred this morning prior to hostage taking..
An Aussie muslim was arrested on terrorist charges earlier. plus there have been recent raids on terrorist suspects.
“This morning a Sydney man was taken into custody on suspicion of terrorism related offences after a morning raid from counter terrorism units of the Australian Federal Police and NSW Police.
AFP confirmed a 25-year-old Beecroft man was arrested by NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT) as part of continuing investigations into the planning of a terrorist attack on Australian soil and the facilitation of travel of Australian citizens to Syria to engage in armed combat.”
So this guy or guys in the chocolate shop are planning to kill someone or kill themselves or both .they know full well that their actions will lead to jail or death, even if they surrender to the police.
Keeping fingers crossed, praying that hostages will be released.
Hopefully the SAS can get them out without a suicide bomber making headlines, my prayers are up for those in Sydney and the hostages.
We need to relay accurate info. And showing that it is not just ISIS that is the problem helps to show Islam for what it really is.
Free countries worldwide need to take notice and start to limit the muslim influence that is creeping in.
Bringing a gun to a slaughterhouse is easy. Socialy and industrialy engineering one takes years of castration and breaking of men into cattles.
It’s black?
It has Arabic written on it?
It is a Jihad flag — even if it says Merry Christmas
Cripple has provided excellent links for this breaking news. Many thanks!
A suspicious packkage was removed form the nearby SYdney Opera House...
these clowns may have stuff planted all over town
time to turn off the cell phone tower in the neighborhood
Yikes. Indeed they may. I wonder why they this is taking so long
they are either going to kill themselves and others or just others at some point. Maybe they are waiting for rush hour to blow up commuter trains. Or busses or whatever Aussies travel on. Or perhaps they are negotiating for something or someone.
Clearance Diving Team One, Royal Australian Navy
and worth mentioning as well:
A man has been arrested about 200 metres from the scene. Apparently armed with a handgun.
Gotta do something to get Gruber off the front page!
