Good list!
We live in one area and have been blessed to have visited the rest.
While I’ve always liked Greenville, SC and it’s a pretty town for the most part, I just don’t see it as being compelling enough to outsiders to be any sort of tourist destination. Maybe as a base to venture out, but really Asheville is more central and more geared to the tourist trade. The lake country up above nearby Clemson is beautiful, many waterfalls falling out of NC and into those lakes at the base of the escarpment. There’s a waterfall and rapids running right through downtown Greenville. But again I just don’t see it as being compelling to tourists, nice as it is. The attractions are to the north, most of them over an hour away.
I took a photo of that in 1976. Looks just the same, other than the colors having faded some.
Guess how many of those destinations are on my bucket list.
We were there not too long ago! I hadn’t realized there was a mine tour that ran under the town. The ok corral was pretty awesome and the bird cage was literally “haunting”. We felt like we stepped back in time. My wife just loved it.
New Orleans is a great place. You must go there to visit the projects.
Yes. Go at night so you can get that really special N O mugging.
I was there a number of years ago with Alan Keyes and a couple of family members. We rode horses out into the hills amongst a bunch of the old silver mines. It was a lot of fun. Very memorable.
