Any woman (or man) that waits 10,20,30,40 years to report such a rape especially when it involves a current celebrity, does not deserve credibility or the ability to ruin the life of another. It destroys the concept of justice. They were not children and I even question that when a large amount of time has passed.
The mind and memory works in funny ways and such a length of time can involve fabrication of events. It eliminates the possibility of a fair trial. It creates a situation where the defendant must defend a negative.
This ‘claim’ is from 1986 !
You're so full of 0bama, your eyes are brown.
Agreed, but Cosbys statement was stupid.
I guess in your mind, because we don’t have a dead body, that facts don’t matter. Sorry Pal, NoSale. I want to see Cosby answer these women’s questions in a court of law. Better still have to take a lie detector test as a precursor. He has never really come out and said these human violations didn’t happen. And there are more people involved ( like the old guy who worked in NYC at the Cosby Studio paying off people to be quiet) that need to be put on the witness stand. You remind me of a former employee who was convinced that OJ Simpson didn’t do it simply be cause he was a “sports figure.”
What about the two who filed police reports within a years or two of the rapes?
For instance the one who filed one year later, found 13 more women to testify to his methods, and who Cosby settled out of court with?
How about his long time girlfriend who was puzzled why he drugged and raped her, when he didn’t need to?
That being said, those were different times. A woman was expected to take responsibility for the situations she put herself in. The minors?....I think they were supposed to have chaperones back then. The grapevine? I'd be surprised if women didn't tell each other to avoid him.
I'd take a look at the wife, too. Was she an enabler? I also wish Cosby would "stay classy" and not blame the women or the media.
It is BECAUSE they were a celebrity that they waited and as several have said (which is often the case and shown by posts like yours) people do not come forward because the don’t think anyone would believe them.
I deal with a lot of abuse counseling, and like in other areas of abuse, people gain courage when they see others have suffered at the hands of the same abuser. It becomes easier to come forward (even after long periods of time) when you see others come forward.
Also, remember the culture - rape accusations in general were not taken seriously (victims fault) and ‘date rape’ wasn’t even part of the vocabulary when much of this happened.
