CENTRAL, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A soldier returning home for the holidays to see his wife and newborn baby in Central is being kicked out of his wife's apartment after the landlord said he is overstaying the time allowed for visitors.

Sergeant William Bolt is stationed in Missouri, but his wife has been in Central. She gave birth to their daughter two weeks ago.

Bolt said the landlord at The Groves apartment complex in Central told him he had overstayed, saying visitors are not allowed to stay in the apartments past seven days, per the agreement signed by Bolt's wife, Lily. [snip]

“The landlord’s name was identified as “Chuck” so hardly the name of someone most people would connect with “military haters

-— The last “Chuck” I talked to was in Dell customer service in Bangalore.

I think he sat right next to “Tammy”. :-)

I know. I was a Navy wife for many years, into his retirement in 2000. I’m guessing they didn’t have enough for a deposit, maybe? He could go to the equivalent of Navy Relief or something.

I have to tell you, I just could not have been a landlord in CA (or Louisianna) Really unfriendly to owners. GA is not bad at all, I’ve found, although I am selling all my places now.

One per bedroom? Including husband and wife.

I’m guessing he’s never had this tested in court because he would lose.

“What a scumbag!”

For enforcing his rules? If you had contracted to live with three other female students and one of them married a dude with a teenage son would you be happy about them moving in?

MrT5 retired after 30 years in the mid 90’s-when my first husband and I married, the pay for two stripes was just as hard to live on as it is now, I’m sure. There used to be an office on base that offered assistance in finding affordable housing-I don’t know if that is still so.

“I’m guessing he’s never had this tested in court because he would lose.”

Actually, it doesn’t say one per bedroom. It says four per apartment.

“When you lease an apartment that becomes your domicile.”

She is not leasing the apartment. She is leasing one bedroom in the apartment.

On what basis? Please cite a law.

“I was an owner and landlord of six single family houses for years. The Fair Housing Act was around long before Obama was. The landlord can’t legally do what he’s threatening, lease or no lease.”

The FHA does not apply in this case.

” the pay for two stripes was just as hard to live on as it is now”

An E-3 with wife stationed in Florida could be drawing more than 50k with all allowances for living off base.

Yep, too bad they’re not illegals, they’d get lots of assistance!

If she didn’t tell him how would he even know if someone was staying in her apt. unless he’s keeping tabs for some reason? Weird and creepy.

That has changed drastically, then-I think an E-3 now makes about $2000 per month, which isn’t great if you are married and have a kid-unless your spouse works-so the housing allowance must be 3-4 times what it was-there were places where you got more for a higher cost of living-Alaska and Hawaii were two of them, but I don’t remember if Florida was.

Well, apparently my comments and opinions don't apply in this case just because you say so.

I don't agree with you either.
