EU commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker has warned Greece against electing extreme forces into power and said he would prefer known facesso far the strongest intervention of the EU top brass in the Greek campaign.
I think that the Greekswho have a very difficult lifeknow very well what a wrong election result would mean for Greece and the eurozone, Juncker said during an Austrian public TV debate with EUobserver and several other Brussels-based journalists.
He steered clear of explicit political advice ahead of presidential elections in Greece next week, but said: I wouldnt like extreme forces to come to power.
The presidential electionsto be held in the Greek parliament on 17 Decembercould trigger early parliamentary elections, if there are three failed attempts to elect a president.
The far-left Syriza, which wants Greeces debt erased and an end to austerity measures, is topping the polls. Markets are already jittery at the prospect of Syriza leader Alexis Tsipras coming to power.

How is this different than the Chinese in Bejing wanting to approve the candidates for Hong Kong’s top spot?
The EU is going to end in bloodshed and lots of it. I hope we can sit this one out.
Well you see, the EU spreads freedom. Like in Libya, Syria, and Ukraine. And if you are anti EU, that’s unpatriotic ,,to America,,,, somehow,,,
We couldn’t sit out the last two. They sure didn’t let us.
Soon the global elites will only permit elections when the voter’s choices have become meaningless.

Hey, who doesn’t want to stop paying their bills and live off someone else? The Germans, yeah, sure, but those bastards are supporting the whole mess and like a bunch of schoolmarms demand that everyone keep their desks clean. Fascists. /s
Thanks Olog-hai.
many people would say that the EU headquarters is itself extreme (at least in that it stifles individual and national liberty or sovereignty throughout Europe nowadays)
a probably-good idea...gone off the track
(sort of like our federal govt?)
I sure hope we bring back trench warfare...
This is what is known as a veiled threat by omnipotent EU bureaucrats. Translated into Chicago thug talk: “nice country you got there, be a shame if you voted wrongly ... if you know what I mean”.
That’s sort of like black panthers standing at a polling place with clubs threatening white voters. Which of course could never happen here....
“Soon the global elites will only permit elections when the voters choices have become meaningless.”
Sort of like federal office elections in the U.S.A. right now...
I think I can 'one up' you:
How is this different than the GOPe running Bob Dole?
Greeks are the dumbest people in Europe. Even their right wing parties are ultraleftists and their left wing parties are straight out commies. If they are going to vote for the party whose election promise is to steal $400B from other countries it is totally ok to give them a warning that it might not work out as well as they imagine.
Dumb, but friendly. And its a lovely country. Stunning, cant wait to go back, the mainland and the islands.
Never thought I’d say the Greeks were dumb, lol.
There’s a reason why the EU let Greece in. It doesn’t have anything to do with how prosperous Greece was or could become. It has everything to do with strategic location.
The European Left's candidate for the European Commission presidency, Alexis Tsipras, Friday called for the immediate release of Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams who is been held for questioning in connection with the 1972 murder of Jean McConville. Tsipras called the arrest a "politically inflammatory act against democracy".
Just let the Russians have Greece so they can reunite with their Orthodox brethren.
