Cromnibus
National Review (Corner) ^ | 12/11/14 | Andrew McCarthy

I am reliably informed that Speaker Boehner is energetically working with the Obama White House to entice Democrats to come aboard the CRomnibus — and is deaf to conservative Republicans who are pushing for a very short term CR with a mechanism for denying funding for President Obama’s lawless unilateral amnesty for illegal aliens. We’ll see what happens, but the Speaker evidently thinks he can get over the goal line by teaming up with Dems.

Just to be clear, I am one-hundred percent in favor of scuttling this bill. A short term CR that covers only the period until the new congress is sworn in—and that defunds Amnesty even in the short haul—would be the best outcome. It is interesting, though, that once Warren staked out her ground, at least according to Moran, she brought many Dems with her.

Beats me, but they sure do it, over and over again.

“We’ll see what happens, but the Speaker evidently thinks he can get over the goal line by teaming up with Dems.”

And afterwards will not get sh!t from conservative Republicans when the new congress is sworn in.

Boehner is a moron. He has a majority now because of, and only because of, conservative voters.

Bonehead and Pelosi are working together to add a Trillion dollars worth of new debt for unborn generations to suffer under. This includes all the spending Obama wants for his unconstitutional amnesty and for the disastrous ObamaCare. Did you call or email your congressman today?

Houston, we have more than a problem, we have a mortal threat to our constitutional Republic. The checks and balances and separation of powers crafted by the founders to protect us from usurpations of our liberty by an out-of-control federal government are failing before our eyes.

Our government is dysfunctional and our recourse to elections is proving utterly incapable of fixing it. The last election demonstrates beyond any doubt that we can strive to put Republicans and even conservatives in office and, even succeeding, we fail.

Charlie Brown, Einstein had it right. We will continue to fail so long as we try reform Washington within Washington. For example, cries to depose speaker Boehner have no chance of succeeding and even if we were to succeed it will avail next to nothing.

Folks, Article V!

Now let’s hear a “pelousy”. Break it off “Cromnibus” with sharp end remaining in case his incisors start growing.

Too bad not one damn conservative on the Hill has the gonads to challenge this weak-kneed loser. It’s an embarrassment of historical proportions.

Benedict Boehner needs a slap across his whiney mouth. What a pos he turned out to be. Not to mention the republican idiots who voted him in as SOTH.

Will somebody please tell me what the f**k Obama has over Boehner’s head? I mean he caves every single time, every single time. Not half the time, not two thirds of the time, but every single time. There’s no split the difference, like Reagan and O’Neill, it’s just cave period.

I am far from privy to the finer points of political strategy, but there are a couple things happening here that I see as positive.

1.) The Dems finally get a taste of a huge back room deal under the “we’ll have to pass it to see what’s in it” sense. Amnesty and Obamacare funding are irresistible bait for the Dems. They cannot use their age-old arguments that Republicans “don’t care.”

2.) Within this legislation are some reforms inimical to Demspeak, being supportive of corporate interests including the Koch Brothers. At any rate, when Elizabeth Warren squirms, you know something proper is contained in this.

3.) The whole thing is such a mess it will probably not pass anyway. Not with Amnesty and Obamacare unscathed, anyway. We may even enjoy a government shutdown, which is a best case scenario, IMO.

At bottom, this is a way of giving the Dems lots of rope to haggle over, while we wait for a more principled congress to begin a ratchet toward fiscal, social, and foreign policy responsibility.

Lastly, I recoil at Boehner with all his spinelessness and weepiness, yet I sometimes wonder if he has an underlying strategy that will make him look like a champ in the end. He’s had to deal with the fecklessness of a small portion of the population who do the Gruber all day long. The Executive Branch has been severely abused by Obama and his puppet masters, but that is drawing to a close sooner than we think.

Maybe I’m being too smart by half, but there may be some strategies Boehner is using that are unannounced. Bait the bill with everything the Dems want and in one fell swoop take away all their petty charges against Republicans until next year, when the tide tightens slightly rightward, with a long way to go. *If* this is what the GOP is up to, it is not something they would telegraph. Totally counterintuitive, I know.

Do you understand that Boehner has effectively funded Obamacare through September? He has funded every tyrannical federal agency, like EPA. He has loaded up pork. He has done the bidding of Wall Street respecting Wall Street regulations-perhaps a good thing but nevertheless evidence that he has been bought and paid. He has given Obama time to administer amnesty. He is following through as Michele Bachmann is now saying on Fox with the deal with Obama to put amnesty through made in September for execution now after the election in November. I see it as further evidence that Boehner and the establishment are utterly bought and paid for, Locke, stock and conservative prayers.

You can believe that in February there'll be an honest effort to defund or otherwise deal with amnesty, I cannot.

I say again, there is no salvation except Article V.

Article V or Civil War II. The SCOTUS is controlled by blackmail, and enough of congress is under blackmail or paid off. The fix is in. The military will do nothing but follow orders. Stormy weather ahead.

I understand your concerns, but am not privy to all the machinations involved. I speak more on the basis of instinct, and that is I believe something to be afoot that is not readily apparent. Not something of great or sudden alarm. The means at our disposal to execute the law as intended by our forefathers have not been lost. Not even close. Funding 0-care through September is not a big deal in the scheme of things. The American people are resourceful. They *will* take the path of least resistance when it comes to government overreach, and they will also resist.

For the present moment, Boehner has granted a nice slice of rope for the Dems to play Gruber with.

For 6 years Republicans have been railing against passing a massive bill that nobody had time to read and analyze. Rightfully so. So Boehner pulls exactly the same shit. Government is dysfunctional no matter who is the majority.

It’s so over the top, I have to believe there is some underlying strategy. Less than a month for cooler heads ot enter the “game.”
