An Army chaplain was punished for discussing matters of faith and quoting from the Bible during a suicide prevention training session with the 5th Ranger Training Battalion -- leading to outrage from religious liberty groups and a Georgia congressman.
Chaplain Joseph Lawhorn was issued a Letter of Concern that accused him of advocating for Christianity and using Christian scripture and solutions during a Nov. 20th training session held at the University of North Georgia.
You provided a two-sided handout that listed Army resources on one side and a biblical approach to handling depression on the other side, Col. David Fivecoat, the commander of the Airborne and Ranger Training Brigade at Ft. Benning, Georgia, wrote in the letter to the chaplain. This made it impossible for those in attendance to receive the resource information without also receiving the biblical information.

Chaplain in the army ping ...
This is madness on parade. I would dare the commander to write such a letter to an imam quoting the Koran.
A Christian chaplain should be using Bible verses.
This will change following CW-II.
Keep the names of those who objected handy.
We’ll need them.
The armed forces have been converted into a tool of Socalled Justice... the long march is complete!
I’m curious how one is supposed to convince a suicidal person to continue living WITHOUT God - what could a secularist psychiatrist possibly tell them?
What else is there for someone who has reached rock-bottom?
Why would anyone other than a bloody mohamedan cultist even want to be a military chaplain?
Unless you are a mohammedan, you ....
Can’t pray.
Can’t quote scripture
Can’t share your faith,
Can’t even have scripture on your office wall or BB.
An Army chaplain using Bible verses???
Next thing you know, firemen will be putting out fires, policemen will be arresting bad guys, and Sandra Fluke will be saying crazy s***!
Continued fight against Christianity within the military ranks ping.
Hasn't he read Article 52 of the constitution of the Soviet Union (1977): "In the USSR, the church is separated from the state, and the school from the church." [http://www.departments.bucknell.edu/russian/const/77cons02.html#chap06]
Argh. This O6 commander needs to retire - the silliness of requiring the use of front and back of paper to save money is overcome by the idiotic concept that military members have the right not to be offended.
Where’s the beer?
Number one reason to see Chaplin Charlie. PRAY.
You go up to the Chaplin when you know you are going to die.
He’ll you how to beat the wrap and live up in the sky.
He will launderise your record so you are clean as any lamb.
The Navy goes to heaven boys so he don’t give a damn.
So now the Army is in the business of eliminating Christianity and Judaism from this country.
Col. David Fivecoat must be short for Col. David Fivecoat Of BS
So the Chaplains are now suppose to teach faith in everything or nothing? Faith is fine so long as it is blind? So long as there is no object of that faith other than the new age concept of God is all and all is God therefore all is good, just sometimes misunderstood?
Why bother?
“A Christian chaplain should be using Bible verses.”
Correct! Otherwise why have chaplains?
"No provision in our Constitution ought to be dearer to man than that which protects the rights of conscience."[O]ur rulers can have no authority over such natural rights only as we have submitted to them. The rights of conscience we never submitted. "A right to take the side which every mans conscience approves . . . is too precious a right and too favorable to the preservation of liberty not to be protected. "It is inconsistent with the spirit of our laws and Constitution to force tender consciences." - Thomas Jefferson
At the height of the Civil War in 1862, President Abraham Lincoln issued this General Order regarding the observance of the Sabbath in the military. In his General Order, President Lincoln quoted from two separate General Orders (February 26, and July 9, 1776) issued by George Washington during the Revolutionary War.
This is the text of President Lincoln's Order:
GENERAL ORDER RESPECTING THE OBSERVANCE OF THE SABBATH DAY IN THE ARMY AND NAVY
EXECUTIVE MANSION,
Washington, November 15, 1862
The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy, desires and enjoins the orderly observance of the Sabbath by the officers and men in the military and naval service. The importance for men and beast of the prescribed weekly rest, the sacred rights of Christian soldiers and sailors, a becoming deference to the best sentiment of a Christian people, and a due regard for the divine will demand that Sunday labor in the Army and Navy be reduced to the measure of strict necessity.
The discipline and character of the national forces should not suffer nor the cause they defend be imperiled by the profanation of the day or name of the Most High. At this time of public distress, adopting the words of Washington in 1776, men may find enough to do in the service of God and their country without abandoning themselves to vice and immorality. The first general order issued by the Father of his Country after the Declaration of Independence indicates the spirit in which our institutions were founded and should ever be defended:
The General hopes and trusts that every officer and man will endeavor to live and act as becomes a Christian soldier defending the dearest rights and liberties of his country.
ABRAHAM LINCOLN
George Washington's original General Orders:
February 26, 1776
All Officers, non-commissioned Officers and Soldiers are positively forbid[den from] playing at Cards, and other Games of Chance. At this time of public distress, men may find enough to do in the service of God and their country without abandoning themselves to vice and immorality.
July 9, 1776
The Hon. Continental Congress having been pleased to allow a Chaplain to each Regiment, with the pay of Thirty-three Dollars and one third pr monthThe Colonels or commanding officers of each regiment are directed to procure Chaplains accordingly; persons of good Characters and exemplary livesTo see that all inferior officers and soldiers pay them a suitable respect and attend carefully upon religious exercises. The blessing and protection of Heaven are at all times necessary but especially so in times of public distress and dangerThe General hopes and trusts that every officer and man will endeavor to live and act as becomes a Christian soldier defending the dearest rights and liberties of his country.
Excellent!
Are ALL the high level decision makers in the military stone cold heathens? Or is all this stuff originating with the raghead in the white hut?
