TARRANT, Alabama -- A woman caught shoplifting eggs in Tarrant Saturday didn't leave with handcuffs and a court date. Thanks to a Tarrant police officer, she left with food for her family.
Officer William Stacy was called to the Dollar General on Pinson Valley Parkway when employees caught the woman trying to steal a dozen eggs, Tarrant Police Chief Dennis Reno said.
The woman had her young children in the car. She told Officer Stacy that she was only stealing because she was trying to feed her children.
Stacy talked with Dollar General, and they said they wouldn't prosecute. So Stacy made an offer.

With me never having had any children, you have given me something to think about. Many parents will do almost anything to make sure their children continue to thrive.
Not almost anything, most would die for their children to survive.
We know she said her kids were hungry. Did she have any kids? Were they hungry. Only she knows for sure.
Including working at menial jobs for a living. Mine sure did.
I don’t know where you get your food stamps forumala - I know some who receive them and most only get $60-$75 a week per person and that depends on other things like rent, utilities, medical expenses, etc. Get your facts straight before making such outrageous claims. I also know someone who works at JFS, and know what I’m talking about. For instance, here in Ohio, for 2 people the most they can collect is #357 per month. That depends upon other factors, as I stated.
With the prevalence of EBT cards, Section 8 housing, Food stamps, and SSI, there is no poverty need to steal, period.
Let me tell you, I am no bleeding heart liberal, by no means. It must have been evident to the officer that kids were in the car and that she only took eggs. Make your own assumption..
I have known some who sell their food stamps and it wasn’t to buy other things they valued more. Some sold them so they could buy toilet paper, soap and laundry detergent. Some of you certainly are cynical. Is it right? No, but, if they have limited cash - some people will sell them. And, I’m sure some sold them for drugs, booze, etc. as well.
Oh lets look at this. Somebody in needs makes an application, how long does it take now days before they get assistance. Could it be she had not received any yet? So many people so quick to judge.
And since you are a Bama folk.....Roll Tide
Roll Tide!
My Dad worked 3.5 jobs, and wanted Mama to stay at home with us, as she also wanted. I never knew how lucky I was till decades later.
Whats going to happen when she runs out of eggs again? This (even if the woman is sincere here) is just a temp fix.
Well it was better than shooting her or putting her in a choke hold.
Or arresting her, taking her to jail and putting the kids in a foster home per CPS.
Roll Tide!!
I tried to get food stamps after surviving Hurricane Katrina. They laughed me out of the building.
No need to steal. There are plenty of organizations and individuals who will help her out. Like this store and officer.

You got enough help from people here on FR, you should not be shooting off your mouth.
Where did that come from?
You know damn well where that came from.
