Back during the Cold War in the 1980s I used to hear of the USAF missile-men down in those holes going through targeting drills for the ICBMs and I heard that Berkley was always a major fun target to set for a dry run....

But maybe I'm confusing all of this with the movie with Matthew Broderick (sp?) War Games?

My buddy at Lockheed Martin said they used to pick various manhole covers in Moscow Red Square for targets.
