After about 30 years of using the Beretta as the primary sidearm pistol for the U.S. military, the Pentagon is seeking a new gun contract.
For gun manufacturers, this kind of a contract is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
While the Beretta lasted three decades, the U.S. military's first semiautomatic standard-issue sidearm, the M1911 from Colt, lasted nearly 90 years. It was issued during the U.S. war in the Philippines through the World Wars to Vietnam and beyond.

We could always go back to the Puckle gun with its square bullets, designed for killing moslems.
I like them. I bought my sons each one and they are very easy to shoot well but a pain to carry around.
“WOW. Thats a hell of a sad story, man.”
Yep.
Would it be in bad taste for me to ask for my pistol back?
Just kidding....kinda.
R.I.P Robert. You really were a hell of a man and a great father. And Grandfather. You are missed.
I didn’t go to the funeral. 2 of my ex’es being there and all, 3 of my stepkids 2 of them being his, I really didn’t need the drama.
35Es went outside the wire with AKs and 9mm Glocks ;) just sayin’
If someone gets in their way is it called a “Glock cockblock”?
Just damn man.
Female warriors can be armed (sic) with 380s. Those won’t hurt their wrists. You can get them in pink even now.

Puckle demonstrated two versions of the basic design: one, intended for use against Christian enemies, fired conventional round bullets, while the second variant, designed to be used against the Muslim Turks, fired square bullets. The square bullets were considered to be more damaging. They would, according to the patent, convince the Turks of the “benefits of Christian civilization.” The square bullets, however, were discontinued due to their unpredictable flight pattern.
Sir, since I’m a retired Marine, I’m not sure what a 35E is but Anyone who has a pistol as their T/O weapon will absolutely grab any rifle available when they depart outside the wire.
No fool, without a PSD escort, would be out without a long rifle.
The M9 will serve it’s purpose, as a personal security weapon, and there is absolutely no need to spend millions to replace.
Did they? I hadn’t heard that they had actually switched.
I’ll take a 45 any day myself.
Quote: “Is the .45 ACP round NATO standard? I thought one of the reasons for the switch to 9 mm was that was the NATO standard.”
It was a funny quid pro quo, actually. NATO did not want to abandon the .762 in favor of the .556. So, they agreed to if we adopted the parabelum. That is how we got the sissy gun.
35D/35E...MI officer/counter intelligence. We went outside the wire as THTs (Tactical Humint Teams) dressed as Arabs and driving around in Toyota pickups with tons of cash to buy off/info on bomb makers. Shot at by them AND us. ALOT. FReegards.
The FBI had that problem when they tried the 10 mm., before shortening the cartridge case to make the .40. However, my wife shoots a .45 with no problems, although she prefers a Ruger .357 Magnum.
Go back to the 1911!
That picture is worth a million words.
The .40 S&W is going to be more snapper on the recoil I would think than the .45 ACP, which seems to be more akin to a push on your hand. That would hurt some of the more delicate service members who might have to use one.
I would think a polymer frame .45 ACP with a higher mag capacity would be the way to go. Glocks have a track record that proves polymer frames and the .45 is a proven combat round.
No offense, but I carry H&K USP Compact 9mm, and I love it.
I use hydra shok hollow points in my 9mm. They work very well.
I’m not a woman, nor a femi-gay, but I do have small-ish hands (only a 10” thumb to pinkie span, though).for a 5’11” 230 lb guy.
Either way, 9mm, shot correctly, will perform the take down.
I never said it wouldn’t. I said that’s the reasons why LEOs and others all went through the changes they did. All mine are 9’s, that sunk in the river.
