Most people go about their lives in such a way as to not attract much notice. But blacks, gays, and a few other groups REFUSE to be ignored, and thus demand our attention!
This active seeking of attention succeeds to draw peoples attention and drives up our perception of how many of them their actually are because the vast majority of people are nearly invisible by comparison.
I guess we need to find that magic closet to find all the GLBT that aren’t honest on the surveys. All sorts of people know the “real” % is about 50%. This is why they need their own special laws. Hell, you don’t know. Maybe YOU are GLBT and just haven’t figured it out yet.
That must be a huge closet, BTW.

Television. Every new sitcom or whatever has some gay character. They represent a low single-digit percentile of the U.S. population, but are vastly over-represented on television and film.

This is true. You don't see me parading around with banners declaring that I'm a heterosexual and that I like it best in the missionary position.
As I’ve been saying for some time, the newsmedia would have you believe that every other person you see is gay. TV shows are now compelled to include at least one token gay role in their storylines, gays are frewuently interviewed, they are very vocal, but they are few in number with no hope of expanding their numbers genetically. Their numbers are well under 10% of the population.
You can't tell crazy people that they are crazy because they will go crazy.
Cause they yell “jump” and the society can’t respond “How High?” fast enough?
...because they wield money & thus influence. $$$ talk.
Careful, we’ve got a nutball on FR that loses it when you say mentally disordered people are mentally disordered.
What I don’t understand is why they have so closely associated the use of their genitalia with their identiity. I have never once in my life introduced or identified myself as anything other than a man.

The origination of the inflated percentage of LGBT in the population came from the notorious Kinsey report. What was lost in the hullabaloo is that his sample population was prison inmates. Prison inmate populations have a larger homosexual population than is found in the general population. You also have prisoners who are not primarily homosexual but who have had some homosexual contact because of their incarceration. This unrepresentative sample sample skewed the numbers.
