ANNAPOLIS Maryland Gov.-elect Larry Hogan reassured an auditorium packed with political leaders Monday that his Republican administration will put aside partisanship to steer the state in a better direction.
But seasoned political hands are raising doubts that the Democrat-dominated General Assembly will meet him halfway.
I stand before you today full of hope, hope for Anne Arundel County, hope for our state and hope for our future, Mr. Hogan said in a speech at the inauguration of Anne Arundel County Executive Steven R. Schuh, a fellow Republican who took charge of the county that is home to Mr. Hogan and the state capital.
I want the future of Anne Arundel County and the future of our great state to be better than its present and better than its past, said Mr. Hogan, who won an upset victory last month over Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown, a Democrat, to become only the second Republican governor in deep-blue Maryland since 1969.
By working together, I believe that we can indeed turn our state around, accomplish great things for the people of Anne Arundel County and that together we can change Maryland for the better, he said.
At the ceremony, Mr. Hogan shared the stage with House Speaker Michael E. Busch, Anne Arundel Democrat, and former Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr., the states last Republican governor. Mr. Busch frustrated much of Mr. Ehrlichs agenda when the two faced off during Mr. Ehrlichs single term from 2003 to 2007.

Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Every time I hear bipartisan, it scares the crap out of me. Usually means the dems will dominate in the end.
“Every time I hear bipartisan, it scares the crap out of me. Usually means the dems will dominate in the end.”
No kidding. I hear “bipartisan” out of a Democrat I hear a lie. I hear “bipartisan” out of a Republican I see a person without a clue.
As a military brat born in Maryland and having lived there off and on over the years, I have watched as the state has devolved from a strong conservative state to an over the top liberal state. Sad to see. Glade I no longer live there.
When Ehrlich was governor, all the legislature did was obstruct him.
I still don’t get how a state can elect a governor and a legislature of opposing party affiliation.
They do it by listing the names separately on the ballot. That way people can vote for the person, not party, they like better. Hogan has not made very many enemies.
I don't either. The voters return the old Democrat weirdo leftists to the House of Delegates and to the Senate but elect a Republican governor and then expect something to change. The DemonRATS dominate Maryland and this new governor will get nothing accomplished except perhaps slowing down the Democrats legislative agenda.

Yep, I remember when he wanted to bring Casino gambling to Maryland instead of raising taxes and they blocked it constantly as being bad for the people of Maryland.
Once they defeated him in his reelection bid and took over, they raised taxes as much as they could and then said “hey, we’ve got a great idea, let’s have Casino gambling in the state for the money it will raise for the state government.” So now we have Casinos and they have their cut; but they then went on and raised taxes even higher. The Maryland ‘RATS even passed a “rain tax”; you’ve read that right, the now actually TAX THE RAIN on your property. Maryland is the only state (so far) that taxes the rain.
The rain tax may have been the RATS’ “bridge too far” as it has pissed off a lot of people and THAT may be why we have a Republican Governor-elect.
Democrats, almost to a man, vote straight-party every time. My question stands.
Here we go again...
DemonRats—can’t live with them but can certainly live well without them.
Bend over Merryland residents! No Crisco either.
I think I read that we don't have as many dems as delegates and senators and they will not be able to override Hogan's vetoes. That would make a big difference.
Yes, then when O'Malley took over, they approved casinos AND raised taxes (40 tax increases in all, including the "rain tax.")
They never met a tax they didn't like -- or at lest one they didn't hike.
And they added one more casino than the people had authorized --- and instead of putting the casinos at the track like most other states do (to save Maryland racing, the intent of the proposal), we're getting them at National Harbor, in downtown Baltimore, and at a shopping mall, of all places.
Where we needed it, if we were going to do it, was at Laurel Park. It needs an upgrade. But nothing happens.
WILL Larry Hogan walk the walk After Wed. in the NOT so Free State???
Larry won the election on Tuesday.
2 days later, in Annapolis, Larry had dinner with Mike Miller.
Mike is the democrat President of the Maryland Senate.
The following Monday, Mike had a fund raiser for Larry, in Annapolis, where they came up with around $300k to fund Larrys campaign debt.
So...don’t get your hopes up.
