NEW YORK — Say what you will about Ted Cruz. The senator does his homework.

More than a few heads nodded approval at last Sunday night’s Zionist Organization of America dinner when Cruz noted that the Hebrew month of Kislev had just begun.

“The month of Hanukkah, a month of miracles,” Cruz went on, recalling the Maccabees’ victory over an oppressive Greek king back in the day. “The few defeated the many. The righteous defeated the unrighteous.”

A few jaws went slightly agape. This Cuban-American tea partier, son of an evangelical minister — he knows from Kislev and the Festival of Lights?

Among the Zionist crowd, Cruz was already well loved for being staunchly pro-Israel, and very tough on Iran, Hamas, the Palestinians and especially Barack Obama. Dayenu, as Jews say on another holiday, Passover, as they list the miracles that delivered their ancestors from Pharoah. It means, that would have been enough.

“He’s aligned with the Jewish people. He’s aligned with the Jewish calendar. He understands Jewish history. He understands that Jews, even though they have small numbers, persevere and are victorious,” Len Getz, a Philadelphia accountant and board member of the Zionist group, said after Cruz’s speech. “Because God is on Israel’s side. He understands that.”

Cruz drew a huge ovation as he recounted an episode two months earlier that many in the crowd had already seen on video: when Cruz walked out on a group of Christian Arabs who booed and heckled his pro-Israel stance.

The day before that appearance, a news report revealed that the summit’s underwriter had backed a Lebanese politician allied with Hezbollah, the terrorist group. Cruz recounted Sunday night that he scrapped his schedule to spend four or five hours debating with aides whether to back out of the appearance. He decided to go ahead, to shine a spotlight on

Surprisingly a lot of those Ted-leaning “latino” voters stayed with the GOP this year too!

If he and the GOP can replicate those numbers nationally, it won’t even be a close election.

I am not sure about that.

Israel is probably one of the most leftist countries in the world with their embrace of gays and free abortion on demand and al that.

Yet the left HATES Israel solely because they refuse to roll-over and die.

Christie is a joke. I like Walker, and I’d like to see Perry. I don’t want another Senator of either party in the White House.

Is there anyone out there who just grabs your attention? Heck no! Is there a Ronald REagan...? No! Is there a perfect candidate? No.

If you could combine the business acumen of Romney, the guts of Walker and Perry, the absolute debating eloquence of Cruz, the conservative intuition and great smile of Palin, the conservative voice of Col West then we’d have a candidate to be excited about.

I’d like the idea of someone coming in, unafraid who can work within the system and cut out the size of this federal govt.

Disband all these useless depts of this and dept of that, slash our tax rates, privatise as much of our govt as possible...Amtrak, Postal service. Support space exploration with private industry.

Overhaul our education and welfare system and kick to the states...and lastly privatize our health care system again, but make it more efficient. Declare a war on Alzheimer’s and Diabetes same as we did for Polio and Small Pox vaccines.

I liked Newt’s ideas and fresh thinking.

Really not surprising that Latinos are gathering around Ted Cruz. It’s not a democrat thing or a republican thing, it’s a Latino thing and if there is a guy named Raphael ‘Ted’ Cruz on the ballot, then Latinos are going to go with him because he is a part of them.

That’s how they think. I’ve seen it up close.

And we are talking about LEGAL Latinos here. The illegals are a whole other animal.

Cruz is an Ivy League graduate whose IQ is, I’d wager, SCORES higher than the person who scribbled this faint praise.
