Dr. Victor Ho lives in an upscale Houston neighborhood. He never imagined he’d be a victim of a violent crime. But that changed the day he came home to find himself face-to-face with two armed robbers.
However, instead of feeling anger towards the young men who threatened him and his family’s safety, Ho and his wife, Arielle Lawson, instead threw them a lifeline: the offer of a free education.
“We thought, how can we show our children how to make a good situation out of a bad situation and be a better person than the person who did this to us?” Ho told TODAY.com.
On the afternoon of Oct. 17, Ho picked up two of his three children from school and pulled up to his Houston home to find a white van facing outward, looking like it was getting ready to leave. As the van began to pull away, Ho rolled down his window to ask the young driver if he could help him. The driver said he was waiting for someone, and drove away.
Instinctively, Ho’s 11-year-old daughter knew something was wrong. “She said ‘Dad, you have to call the police.’”(continued)

Dr Ho is either a much better man than I or the dumbest highly educated smart man in Houston. I suspect the latter.
I admire him. He’s putting his money where his mouth is. The perps don’t deserve it, no, but that’s what makes this so great.

It’s frightening when a 11 year old has more common sense than the parent; I hope his technical medical skills are better.
A van backed up to a garage at his house and a “Can I help you?” Here is my wife and daughters, help yourself.
You are probably right that it boosts his image while protecting his investment. Some will scoff, but if one has the means and the mind to make such an offer, there is always at least a slim possibility that it might touch someone’s life in a way that has a wider effect. God can make all sorts of good things happen out of the ills that plague us.

I agree that this is an incredibly Christian gesture. Idealistic maybe, but nobly motivated.
I would endorse it with one proviso: the money will be there for you, provided you come forward, confess your crime to the authorities, and accept the consequences. You don’t get rewarded for being a criminal, at least not until you’ve paid society back. Prove to me that you’re at least that responsible and I’ll pony up for your education.
A trained SWAT doctor who doesn’t call the cops as his more observant and mature 11 year old daught advised him to do and who wanders around the house without a gun is more than a fry short of a happy meal. Lets hope something, like getting fired by his supervisor over his stupidity or shot the next time, doesn’t mess up his financial portfolio so his own kids don’t get a college education. One would think there would be prints on the money they gave back to him.
Coming forward and confessing the crime was one of the requirements Dr.Ho stipulated. It was mentioned in the article.

I live in Houston; crime like this is common and out of control (our lesbo mayor is more concerned with men with vaginas using public restrooms). I had to get dogs to protect the back side of our house from intrusion; at least once a month we get probing activity from criminals.
I have a child/family to protect; They come first. If I see a "van backed up in my driveway" I will not be relying on her common sense - I will utilize my own!
This guy sounds like a dumb ho.
As an aside, I have noticed an increase in black hostility in the last few weeks. I see it in public: Black people being aggressive - yelling, and hostile to non-black people. In the last instance I just stood there as visible backup for a very pregnant white lady. I was afraid she was gonna get attacked in a parking lot.
Now more than ever, we need to stick together.

Dr. Victor Ho fails to understand that the fact is some people are among us that shouldn’t be among us.
