In my opinion, his concept of the Second Amendment is a work in progress, especially the part about “shall not be infringed”. Unless he evolves in a demonstrable way, he is not ready for prime time

And if he does evolve, he evolves. Time will tell. As for the 2nd Amendment, he's not a gun grabber, but he's a bit squishy. BUT really, how important is the office of President to this issue? It's not like any Republican President, who would only be elected in an election with GOP majorities, is going to actually do anything detrimental to 2A rights.

Very important, actually. Pro-2nd Amendment presidents can veto legislation that restricts the right to bear arms, can to some extent mitigate the anti-2nd Amendment idiocy coming out of the Federal bureaucratic morass, and can sign legislation that removes restrictions on the right to bear arms. He can also appoint judges that interpret the Constitution in the proper manner, recognizing that individuals have the right to bear arms. That renders the office of the Presidency important.

Also, you might want to reconsider that notion about a Republican president only being elected with Republican majorities- Reagan didn’t have that luxury, after all...

Just like all those Republican congressmen who have stuck by promises to their constituents to uphold the Constitution and preserve our rights.
