A squadron of ships from Russia's Northern Fleet is currently conducting drills in the English Channel, according to Russian media.
The squadron, lead by the Udaloy-class destroyer Severomorsk and including the Alexander Otrakovsky amphibious ship and a tanker, are conducting exercises such as assisting a vessel in distress, communication training and transferring fuel in international waters. The ships are crewed by a total of 250 Russian marines.
Russian media reports that the ships were also conducting drills to "repel air attack".
According to the Russian navy's press service:

If I was Putin, watching all this going on in the US/West I’d be doing war maneuvers too.
The Russians are fighting to conquer.
The Americans are fighting for free condoms.
~Oh please.....we had a joint training session with the Russians right here in the USA....Courtesy of the present CIC.~
Under Bush there was quite an extensive program involving Russian troops training on American territory and US bases in Europe using American weapons and armor and American troops training in Russia and Central Asia with Russian weapons and armor.
Russia has to have oil at 101.00 dollars per barrel to pay it’s bills. Last time I checked, it was in the 69 dollar per barrel range.
Putin might personally have to pull out his credit card and pay some French of British fuel supplier a couple hundred grand for fuel to put in these rust bucket ships so they can crawl back to Russia.
Since Putin is estimated to have stolen 62 billion dollars from his people, he can afford it, for a while.
Wow. I can’t imagine what that felt like.

Yes they are but because they are a restricted navigation body of water different rules apply. International right of free passage through a strait or channel. During peace time, any nations ships can pass through the English Channel, just as the can through the Straits of Malacca, the Skagerrak or the Bosporus. This is a long standing tradition and recognized by all maritime nations.

Where’s Lord Nelson when he’s needed?
Wonder how much skill the Russians have in navigating around crowded merchant lanes so they can play games?
Aren't the Islands of Guernsey and Jersey there? They are possessions of the Crown and therefore their defense is the responsibility of the United Kingdom, which would make this movement of Russia a de facto provocation notwithstanding.
Maybe one of the possibilities is that Russia can blockade the channel if the conflict becomes real.
That could come in handy if they decide to screw with a real U.S. President and his favorite Navy.
And they might want to talk to the Argentines before they decide to screw with the Royal Navy.
Carry on, gentlemen.
My young cousin got a good look at the Baltic Fleet in port a couple of years ago during a Fleet visit and, well, that's what he said.
I think Halsey's flagship during the Guadalcanal operation's darkest days was, in fact, a destroyer tender sitting in the bay offshore Henderson Field.
