Former Massachusetts Governor and failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney believes Republicans should "swallow hard" and pass a permanent amnesty bill in the wake of President Barack Obama's executive amnesty that even Romney conceded would encourage more illegal immigrants to enter the country.

If the GOP passes amnesty, they will die as a party. THIS is the hill they will die on.
GOP, you’ve been warned. The seeds of a UKIP-like, Whig making defection from your party are already here. You don’t have the latitude to bow to your chamber paymasters on this.
Pass amnesty, and your already shaky coalition with your base crumbles.
So is this the guy we want to make the next President? I really hope Mitt does not think he can run after this. And you can be sure that Jeb is like a Vulcan mind meld on this subject.
Prepare to fight the establishment tooth and nail or one of these clowns will be the nest GOP nominee and 6 million republicans will sit home instead of 3 million.
What a effing idiot
Sounds like liberal condescension. Aw, you are disappointed in me. I do not want people coming to my country illegally. I want the border closed. I want to begin by getting rid of criminals. I want the hiring of illegals and drivers licenses for illegals to stop. I want no government benefits for illegals. But as much as we can agree that 15 million should not be here, we have to face the fact that forcing 15 million people to leave on buses is not going to happen.
I don’t have the solution. Perhaps the right actions by a real president can actually force many to self deport. I would certainly be in favor of giving people money to go back home and not allow them back in over a border that is truly secured. It would be easily worth giving each person $1000 to leave. That would be 10 billion for 10,000,000 people. Heck, give ‘em each 5 grand to leave. It is a bargain at 50 billion.
How do you deport 15 million people? One at a time...does not matter how long it takes...
No, Romney said it during the campaign , "self deportation" and the MSM bbq'd him for it. The argument that we need to have wide open borders or round up people in the streets is a false one that the MSM pushes. We all know the common sense solution. :
1) Secure the borders - this means we keep track of student visas , who's coming and going etc. Hell, if you're wrong on your taxes for one year, they'll spend a fortune tracking you down and making sure you pay all fines and penalties, so the government can do this if it wants.
2) Enforce the laws on the books. That means using an e-verify system to see who's legal and who isn't. Make the fines for hiring an illegal so onerous that any business will think twice before chancing it. Again with all the spying this regime does on the population, don't tell me they don't know exactly who's legal and who isn't.
3) End welfare, EBT, free public education for illegals and their kids.
4) Repeal the 1965 Kennedy immigration law. End chain migration. We base immigration on what the immigrant can bring for the country. Immigration to the US was once a privilege, not a right. We need to return to that mindset.
Once this type of thinking goes into place the magnet for illegals will be shut off, and those here will return home.
Finally, has anyone considered, why countries like Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua are petitioning the regime for even more migrants to enter the US? We're constantly told what a boost to our economy they are. So why , if these people are so valuable, are their home countries not screaming that they want their citizens back? Think of the boon to these third world countries these industrious migrants would represent.
That's essentially what the GOP ran on this election: We're not Democrat!
(I mean really, can you point to anything that they've as-a-party stood firm on in the last six years?)
Since the third debate, in which Romney handed over the presidency to Obama, with a glittering sleazy smile, we have been pacing about wringing our hands waiting for this moment, when we give the senate to the conservatives. Not the republicans
Now they had better get in there in January and get it done. Get these disgusting fractions of men off the stage. They had better get out of Cruz’s way
Or we will be the United. States of Welfare, lawless, unrecognizae
Romney works for Obama.
Never said Romney was desirable - just more desirable than Obama. The facts from the 6 years that Obama has been dismantling the Nation still make Romney desirable in comparison. Barney Fife vs. Charlie Manson - one will cause some damage and the other will dedicate his entire effort to absolute destruction.
A major reason that from the very start, conservatives should shun both Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney as intolerable.
Other than supporting multinational corporate internationalism, which is profoundly harmful to America, neither of these men seemingly care one whit for reason and common sense.
They live in a fantasy world where socialized medicine works, a welfare state is good, the government is supposed to micromanage the lives of all citizens, and “the business of America is the ‘Military-Police-Intelligence-FED-Multinational Corporation-Federal Debt Complex’.”
The Republican leadership wants, once again, to force losers like this on us. And if through some miracle a conservative is nominated for POTUS, the leadership would throw their support to Hillary, preferring the radical left agenda to that of the conservatives.
One of the reasons Romney is not president.

Staples must need more warehouse workers....
Go away Mitt, you’re liberal!
[expletive deleted]UMR!
Of course they've never managed to explain a single issue he was "less liberal" on.
