The number of people seeking U.S. unemployment benefits jumped last week, pushing total applications above 300,000 for the first time in nearly three months.
Weekly applications rose 21,000 to a seasonally adjusted 313,000, the Labor Department said Wednesday. That's the highest level since the first week of September.

Meanwhile Obama is welcoming millions of invaders across our border to compete with Americans for jobs.
Nothing to see here. Move on...
Obama don’t need the diddled numbers now that he’s re-elected and the damage is done from November. He gonna do what he gonna do, ain’t no stopping him but Impeachment and/or total defunding.
Yep, instead of “Seasonally adjusted” the numbers are now “pre and post election adjusted”.
LOL ahhhh the evil, ubiquitous “bad weather”. If only it could be stopped!
So, you’re saying a sternly worded letter from the Republicant’s in Congress threatening a law suit ain’t gonna do it?
The oilfield will crash and you’ll see the only bright spot of the economy for the last several years fall on hard times. Wait for it. it won’t take much longer.
The budget cycle in the oilfield starts in August, polishes up in October, closes the year, takes a breather for the holidays and tax close, takes January to crank back up and by February the die is cast for the rest of the year. I doubt we’ll be seeing any lucky sevens rolled for the oilfield in 2015.
One significant difference I see from past times of oil bust is the increasing role of Natural Gas and particularly Natural Gas Liquids for Petrochemical Feedstock.
I see those markets as much larger that our past times of bust. While it will not help every player, there will remain more significant market for drillers, pipeline, terminals, etc than just oil.
Those prices have become decoupled from oil prices.
One would think so. Almost every store in our area has a “Holidays Help Wanted” sign out front. And we’re not exactly a boom town (one hour SE of Pittsburgh, PA).
Looks like some of the applications were mysteriously delayed into the future to keep the pre-election numbers down.
It’s the extra hiring time of year and no layoffs until January. Oh...that was the past.
Sounds like something coming out of the old Soviet Union.
