“Polish cavalry does not use horses in battle.”

They sure as hell did in 1939, and they GOT THEIR BUTTS KICKED. Yet people on this thread are convinced that they could have fought off the Panzers (or else they wouldn’t be saying what they’re saying now).

I see people posting crap saying that they (the Poles) will somehow defend our interests now, when they’re spending NEXT TO NOTHING on their military and have a bunch of boy scouts they call their army, while the Russians have weapons that we haven’t even started on coming up with countermeasures for, since we are MUCH MORE INTERESTED in providing contraceptives for Sandra Fluke.

Let’s agree on one thing - either we have Obamacare, or we’re a world power, for we sure as hell cannot afford both (as is now obvious).

Er, lots of people still used cavalry in 1939, the Germans included. The Russians had huge masses of cavalry until 1945. The Poles did rather well with their cavalry at the time, unlike the mythology on the subject. There was no charging tanks with lances. They were used as mobile infantry. The Poles were just outnumbered by a larger enemy with better equipment and then invaded by the Soviets as well, removing their strategic depth. They had no chance under those circumstances of fighting off the Panzers. The strategic situation at the moment is rather different though.

The point I responded to was the Poles using cavalry today, which is not true.

As for the Polish military budget, its 2% of their GDP, which in real terms is 2.5X that of Ukraine.

Other people have strategic interests too.

The Poles will defend their own interests, which I am informed, do not include being dictated to by the Russians. They seem to think they have their own sphere of influence, which includes the Baltics and at least Western Ukraine. At the moment most of our interests coincide with theirs, with greater or lesser weighting of values, as usual.

There are also people who have different problems than the US and don’t know or care what Sandra Fluke does or wants.

Whatever our problems they are trivial compared to those of the rest of the world, including Russia. They wish they had our problems, and we theirs. Everyone seems to expect that we are the superpower and they aren’t wrong, at the moment. Maybe in a few years things will be different, but for now, they aren’t.

The best way to approach strategic problems is to develop the ability to see things from other peoples perspectives. If you were a Pole, if you were a Russian, if you were a Lithuanian, if you were a German.
