ST. LOUIS, Mo. A woman appears to have accidentally fatally shot herself in the head with a gun bought to prepare for possible Ferguson-related unrest, according to sources briefed on the police investigation.
The shooting occurred Friday night in downtown St. Louis, the citys Metropolitan Police Department said, in an area dominated by vacant lots beside a football stadium.
The female victim, identified in a police report as Becca Campbell, 26, was a passenger in a car involved in an auto accident.
Her 33-year-old boyfriend was driving, the sources told CNN.
The boyfriend, who wasnt identified, told police that the couple had bought a gun because of fears of unrest related to the pending grand jury decision on the shooting of Michael Brown, the sources said.
He told investigators that as they drove late Friday night, the victim waved a gun, jokingly saying the couple were ready for Ferguson, the sources said.
He ducked to get out of the way of the gun and accidentally rear-ended another car.
He said the accident caused the gun to go off and she was struck by a bullet in the head, the sources said.
The victim was rushed to a hospital but died.
The investigation is continuing because police want to be sure the story as told by the boyfriend is correct, the sources said.
Police are awaiting gun trace results, as part of the ongoing investigation.
When with the riots for justice start for her?
Walter Brennan said it best; “You pull a gun, you better kill a man.”
Darwinian.
I thought it was about a woman rioter who bought a gun. I’m disappointed.
Animals! Nothing more than that, most have never really been law abiding.
Let’s see how many of the basic rules of gun safety were violated...
1) Treat every gun as though it’s loaded. - fail
2) Keep your finger off the trigger unless you’re ready to shoot. - fail
3) Don’t point the gun at anything you don’t wish to destroy. - fail
4) Know your target and what’s beyond it. - fail, since there was no target
Yep, all four rules were violated at once. I’m not too surprised there was a bad outcome. Here are some hints: don’t wave a loaded gun around in a car with your finger on the trigger...and especially don’t point it at the driver.
I feel sorry for the driver. RIP.
I can see why the police might want to investigate this further. Story sounds fishy.
The First Amendment gives every American the right to a gun.
But if you’re a complete friggin’ moron, perhaps you shouldn’t.
The media have been pushing this story to “prove” that getting a gun will actually kill you easier than it will protect you.
It’s a method of reporting that I refer to as, “the subtle push.”
This sounds fishy.
I doubt there was a healthy life insurance plan that he was the benificiary of.
“The investigation is continuing because police want to be sure the story as told by the boyfriend is correct, the sources said.”
Yeah, I’d be looking at the BF too since theres no other witnesses..
People shouldn’t have guns if there not trained in there use.She didn’t get the word tha a gun is not a toy.
“The First Amendment gives every American the right to a gun.”
It gives you the right to shoot off your mouth in an unrestricted manner?
This is as good as when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor!
I’ll be surprised if it happened like that.
I am no sure that I believe the guy’s story.
For this to happen, the woman would have had to release the safety of a loaded gun ( unless it was a revolver) and been poiting it at herself, at the time the guy swerved and hit the other vehicle.
Stranger things have happened.
When your only contact with weapons is a rap video then this is going to happen.
Worse, she accidentally shot Marvin in the back seat (again).
It does help chlorinate the gene pool on occasion.
