Probably stabbed her for her iphone...
We live in a quiet community at the north edge of Los Angeles. Sunset here currently is 4:45 or so, and it has to be earlier in Connecticut, maybe 3. This means to me that it was nighttime, essentially. Although our community is quiet and well-policed, there are of course ‘shoppers’ from other areas who come looking for trouble.
I would not be out at 8 pm running, personally. Even a tucked-away community has roads into it and out of it, and all you need is one criminal looking for trouble.
I was thinking the same thing, it’s pitch Black at 5pm in New England, almost to dark to see in front of you, how can you run....and why?
I've been through the area, even stopped at a restaurant where you describe. Those restaurants do attract people passing through; it's not a totally isolated town with no strangers. It is shocking, to think she probably would've been safer jogging in the park in the south section of Springfield.
No one who is not white and upper-middle-class to be found within 20 miles of the spot.

Home invasion next block, Trashmen and cleaning help.
What about the scraggly looking homeless guy that rides his bike up and down the bicycle path (part of the same trail along Iron Horse) from Avon to Simsbury every day and hangs out on the park benches along the way? The cops surely know of him and should question him at the very least.
The walkway was not installed by local labor. The lamp posts were not installed by a local property owner. The streets and sewers are not maintained by local residents, either.
The domestic that cleans the house down the street doesn’t own a car, her “baby daddy” picks her up after work.
Etc., etc.
Communities aren’t as homogenous as they would like to believe.
Well, if you would stop by the Avon Deli (just over the Simsbury border on 10) on a weekday for breakfast, you will see all the water company and utility trucks parked outside. Inside, you will see hefty men with beards and baseball caps eating large plates. They are basically highly-paid unionized rednecks, who drive pickup trucks and listen to country music.
Same things with the housecleaning scene. They usually use local blue-collar women, who do a good job.
The low-class people in Connecticut typically stay in their area and collect their welfare checks. Working is not their thing.
God Bless New Britain.
Service personnel and delivery drivers are the number one and number two most likely groups to commit crime in upscale areas. Not the thugs living 30 miles away.
I hope she had good life insurance coverage.
So what are you implying, that is was a planned attack?”
My first thought, I mean within nanoseconds, was that hubby or whomever is gonna’ get a Police Special Rectal.
Google Street view says different. This is the very spot, as far as I can determine. ... not sayin' ... just sayin' ...
Now back to your regularly scheduled Ferguson thread...
The bosky dells of Connecticut are no less dangerous than the meaner streets of New Haven. Just a different kind of danger. Maybe worse, since one might not expect it.
Yeah, that ridge is full of bears. You see one wandering through the parking lot every once in a while. I am on the alert for them when I am walking in the area.
As for the kind of perpetrators you’re talking about, I have walked the vicinity many times at all hours, and never seen a one. It is truly solitary in the woods, except for an occasional dog-walker. The bicycle path gets a fair bit of use in the warmer months, but if you cut through the meadows and walk the footpaths in the woods down by the water-treatment plant, you’re very unlikely to encounter anyone.
My own take on this crime is that something very unusual happened. If anyone wanted to target this specific person, they would have waited until the bicycle path goes away from the road by the Ensign-Bickford plant. You could easily hide in the woods there if you were waiting for a specific person, and then take a footpath to the parking lot of the Chinese restaurant on Route 10 and make a clean escape. It just doesn’t make any sense the way it apparently happened.
I was in Bloomfield earlier this year. It was a nice place, I thought.
Those bastards followed the mother from a supermarket. I believe they were scummy Americans and had prior record.
Thank you for the update. What a horrible reminder that nobody is safe, anywhere.
Do those wealthy serve the fries and clean the toilets in utopia?
