Last year saw the highest number of terrorist incidents since 2000, according to the latest Global Terrorism Index released by the Institute for Economics and Peace. Worldwide, the number of terrorist incidents increased from less than 1,500 in 2000 to nearly 10,000 in 2013. Sixty percent of attacks last year occurred in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria and Syria.
The report suggests that U.S. foreign policy has played a big role in making the problem worse: "The rise in terrorist activity coincided with the US invasion of Iraq," it concludes. "This created large power vacuums in the country allowing different factions to surface and become violent." Indeed, among the five countries accounting for the bulk of attacks, the U.S. has prosecuted lengthy ground wars in two (Iraq and Afghanistan), a drone campaign in one (Pakistan), and airstrikes in a fourth (Syria).

We have quit the “War on Terror.” We did that before we ever started. We shouldn’t fight anymore wars until we figure out if we’re exceptional or not: all we’re doing is getting a bunch of people killed with nothing to show for it.
The report suggests that U.S. foreign policy has played a big role in making the problem worse
Did the report suggest that Islam has played a big role in making the problem worse? How about Iran and its surrogates? How about the "Palestinian Authority" and Hamas?
One cannot win a War against an Enemy one cannot even name,
while run by a “leader” betrothed to the Enemy.
Touchy-feelie ‘understanding’ not working for ya?
Ya think that maybe they DO actually wanna chop our bloody heads off?
Call me intolerant, but maybe IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE!
Oh my, the graph shows that the trend started a rapid upward shift right after Obama became President. How could that be? He fixed it. I know that he did, he said so. I’m sure that Obama’s policies have nothing to do with it.
The New York Times is a garden of lies. Even Democrat thugs don’t really believe this.
Terrorism is up because of Obama’s incompetence.
Incompetence? ... Complicity, not incompetence.
What happened to our stockpile of neutron bombs? The ones that kill vermin like the raghead muzzies, but leave the buildings etc. in tact. I can think of a number of places where they could be put to use immediately!
You got that right. It started with Nam.
We have lost too many good people for what looks like nothing. . . .
Eh, people don’t care. Its all going on the national credit card and only 1% serve. War without sacrifice can indeed be perpetual.
> We have quit the War on Terror.
Hell we have a president who is aiding and abetting it as well as encouraging it. I honestly believe, as many others do, that he wants “certain” terrorist organizations on our soil and that he is really the enemy cloaked as the POTUS. All evidence points to to it.
I don’t think there’s any question.
It’s time for Patriots to take over this country, run the Tories out, and fight to win.
Some of the places are fairly close.
When America has a weak president and a party that goes along with the president, trouble in the world erupts. We have a very weak pRESIDENT.
George Washington warned us about the dangers of foreign entanglements and political parties. Shame we didn’t listen. Ditto on Dwight Eisenhower’s parting warning about the dangers of MIC getting out of hand. In between them 2-time Medal of Honor winner Marine Brigadier General Smedley Darlington Butler wrote “War is a Crock”.
Militarizing the response to terrorism is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline. Also consider the wisdom that “No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.” (Thomas Jefferson)
We should stay out of other people’s business and leave them alone, and if they refuse to leave US alone, wipe them out. Don’t invade them or try to enlighten them into the 21st century; incinerate them. Make it quick, brutal and not subject to misinterpretation. Either the number of enemies we have should drop afterwards or the enemies that are left should be too terrified to act against us.
All that was needed was to make a glass parking lot out of Fallujah all those years ago when they were hanging our burned soldiers bodies from the bridge, and none of this cost or expense in lives would have happened.
You have to kill the financiers of terrorism. Iran, Saudi’s etc. I guess the bribe money is too good for the politicians.
