Food Network's Hunger Games
American Thinker ^ | November 24, 2014 | Rosslyn Smith

The Food Network is currently promoting a crusade to end childhood hunger in America. Had the Food Network not been relentless promoters of the Obamas, I could almost see this as an ironic comment on the utter lack of appeal of the food being produced in schools across America in the First Lady's name. But the Food Network is serious. In their holiday promotion their spokespeople cite the much-debunked statistic that one in five children in America goes hungry on a regular basis. .

Something is truly out of whack here. If one in five American children are going hungry how can there also be an epidemic of obesity that requires the downsizing the heavily subsidized public school lunch program to help correct? Basic observation indicates the children of the affluent are neither overweight nor emaciated. If anything, many middle class children tend to look a little pudgy, while a great many of the children of the welfare class and the working poor are noticeably obese. So who and where are those twenty percent of American children who go hungry?

"how can we be suffering"

This "hunger" scam is similar to the homeless scam that was debunked more than twenty years ago. There was some homeless advocate named Mitch Snyder who claimed there were two or three million homeless Americans. Most of the media swallowed it whole. But some guy actually did some checking and found there were only one hundred to two hundred thousand homeless. Snyder subsequently committed suicide shortly after the hoax was found out.

This "hunger crisis" scam is of the same making. They claim one in six Americans is going hungry. More likely less than one percent of the population goes hungry, and that's often children with abusive parents who deliberately keep food from the kids. The "hunger crisis" advocates should be publicly flogged.

When I went to work at the local food pantry, the first thing I learned was that most of the clients smoked cigarettes. The food is given so that they can spend their money on smokes instead.

IOW they need the food because cigarettes cost so much. Which is because of the liberals.

A year of so ago the tv station in my area did a story on the supposed "crisis" of kids going on summer vacation might starve without school lunches. So the city of La Crosse, Wis. enacted some sort of summer lunch program for school kids. Unbelievable. Where are the parents?

When I was growing up it was assumed parents were primarily responsible for feeding their own children. How wacky is it to assume parents are not capable of feeding their own children?

"skepticism"

The going motto should be: never trust any statistic put out by any group or org. that admits to being liberal. Truth and reality are foreign concepts to liberals.

From the homeless numbers scam, to the hungry Americans scam, to the pct. of people who are homosexuals lie, to the "rape crisis" on college campi lie, to the women who do not get paid the same as men for doing the same job fiction, to the innocent black males "murdered" by cops for being black lie, virtually every statistic proffered by liberals as being real has turned out to false when subjected to close examination.

Which is why there are so many liberals in Hollyweird and the world of entertainment. Most of it is make believe.

I knew a woman at work who one time during lunch break was railing about the starving people in America. I asked her to tell me exactly where those people who were starving were. Of course, she couldn’t tell me. She was just parroting back all the jive she’d heard through the media. Naturally, millions of gullible Americans believe the lies.

I have never heard of a hungry child, unless they were neglected by an adult. This is a non-existent concern. I have seen plenty of hungry adults, who were mentally ill homeless people, who would not avail themselves of readily available free meals.

My husband and I just had this conversation this morning about the price of cigarettes. If you smoke these days, I would think you would have to make a choice between food and butts. When I smoked many years ago a pack was 35 cents!

It’s called “food insecurity.” Liberals use that term to describe people who are not sure when they’re going to eat next...it might mean someone who does not know if they’re going to have dinner at five o’clock or six o’clock. Hence, they’re “insecure.” And the libs actually use that to claim these are “hungry” people and put them in their hungry people file. Unbelievable.

I’m with you...don’t contribute to pleas for food for hungry anyones (illegals, irresponsible parents, etc)...it’s one of those “feel good” actions which is fake. Too many grifter and lovers using the “system”...we pay our taxes...that’s enough...we give mostly to VET organizations...

I would have told you growing up that I was almost always hungry but I was well fed enough to grow up to be six feet and four inches tall and score in the top one percent on an IQ test. I burned so many calories on the farm that I could eat almost constantly. My favorite thing was a family reunion with all those dishes that my aunts and uncles cooked. We would eat until ready to burst and then run around like wild indians for an hour or two and start eating again.

Yeah - parents are not held accountable...I remember growing up - who showed up with me during lunch or dinner - my family feed them - no questions asked...even my grandfather would cook extra - he said , you never know...

But yes - parents are buying other things and not taking care of their kids...and those kids develop attachment disorders - not all - but to some degree most.

Then if the parents are drug away to jail - who takes care of them then...foster families - state facilities...all because at some point - some liberal program suggested that these idiots have “a right” to do as they please without consequences...and society is now paying for it...

Same here - there is a school lunch program during the summer set up downtown and up on the hill for kids to go and get food...no questions asked...sitting outside and watching ...you see parents drive up - drop off - leave and in a few hours come back and pick up - repeat! Like a bad hair shampoo...

But those same parents are the first to call and complain when little Johnny acts up in class and gets in trouble during the school year...never ending stupidity!

...this “community” needs to take care of everyone approach breeds laziness - and the kids pay for it for a life time...as do the tax payers...

Or a news report from a reputable source of a child starving to death. The only exception being cruel parents deliberately starving a child. I'm 69 years old and I've never seen a single instance. Not one in the U.S. anyway...If a child is hungry today in the U.S. it is from parents selling their food stamps.

This is exactly what I've been saying. With all the programs (both government and charities) that provide food, if a child is going hungry in the US, there is abuse involved. No other way around it.

They come up with these BS stats by defining ‘hungry’ as ‘food insecure’. What the mean by that is 1 in 5 “don’t know where there next meal is coming from.” The problem is these days lots of kids don’t know on Friday (when they do a survey) where they will eat on Saturday.
Will they make hotpockets Saturday afternoon because mom is out partying? Will they go to a ball game with dad and his new girl friend? Will they crash at their friends place because no one back home really cares if they show up? Does their step mom even have enough on her EBT card to? They don’t know and that, to a liberal, means they are starving.
