Obama To Immigration Critics In Congress: "Pass A Bill" [Or Else I'll Keep Passing My Own?]

REBECCA KAPLAN CBS November 20, 2014 Obama To Immigration Critics In Congress: "Pass A Bill" Nov 20, 2014

President Obama on Thursday defended the actions he's taking to shield about 5 million immigrants in the U.S. illegally from deportation as "lawful" and consistent with what his predecessors have done.

"I continue to believe that the best way to solve this problem is by working together to pass that kind of common sense law," the president said. "But until that happens, there are actions I have the legal authority to take as President - the same kinds of actions taken by Democratic and Republican presidents before me - that will help make our immigration system more fair and more just."

"The actions I'm taking are not only lawful, they're the kinds of actions taken by every single Republican president and every single Democratic president for the past half century," Mr. Obama added.

The actions he outlined will grant a reprieve from deportation to about 5 million immigrants in the U.S. illegally and allow them to apply for a three-year work permit if they can pass a background check, register with the government, submit biometric data, and establish they are eligible for relief.

During the speech, he argued that his actions are shaped by America's character.

"Are we a nation that tolerates the hypocrisy of a system where workers who pick our fruit and make our beds never have a chance to get right with the law?" he asked. "Or are we a nation that gives them a chance to make amends, take responsibility, and give their kids a better future?"

promise not to read it or veto it first, and they will.

i don’t know why no one mentions he won’t sign a bill congress would actually pass.

he means either pass one exactly like i want, or else....

don’t work that way, barry boy.

The House already has. Reid stalled them. McConnell can pick them up next session if he wants to and vote on them.

They and you can laugh, but the House did pass several bills.

Oh yeah...

BTW after 40 years of lawless borders, watching the endless conga-line of millions entering illegally with dempubs fighting each other for who can offer the best prizes, it's hard not to laugh, in a sarcastic way...

You get it.

“The House has already passed several immigration bills, including locking down the border. All the liberal republican Senate has to do next session is take up one of them and pass it.”

I bet it is the first order of business for the new Senate and they will have it passed by mid January.

I don't trust the liberal Senate republicans very much. If you have any pull with them, you need to find out what they intend to do with those bills.

Pass a bill only funding border infrastructure, patrolling and immediate deportations.

LOL...

The same ones who re-elected Ditch and Boner as their "leaders"?

The House has already passed bills like that.

In theory, the liberal republican Senate could pass one of those next year and send it to Obama.

I'm not going to hold my breath. I know how liberal the republican leadership of the Senate is.

His relentless campaign has one goal: make the Americans a minority in their own country and save the Rat party from demographic oblivion.

The leftists aborted themselves out of existence. In states where there is no heavy foreign population they are losing ground fast.

So they have to import a constituency. The Rust Belt whiteys have caught on to the game and realize they are simply taken for granted by a Leftist elite which actually holds them in contempt; they are either voting Republican or abstaining.

He’s not gonna quit. This is do or die, and the election just proved it.
