President Obama rejected the idea that his executive action on immigration sets a precedent for future presidents to enact their preferred policies without Congress, at least if the policy were tax reform.
George Stephanopoulos asked Obama in an interview airing on This Week about an analogy that many of the presidents critics have drawn: How do you respond to the argument, a future president comes in, wants lower taxes. Doesnt happen. Congress wont do it he says Im not going to prosecute those who dont pay capital gains tax.
Obama didnt respond to the question and continued with his talking points, prompting Stephanopoulos to press him again: So you dont think itd be legitimate for a future president to make that argument?
With respect to taxes? Absolutely not, the president replied.
Mega Weasel.
Power for me, not for thee.
I wonder what his response - his true opinion - would be if he was asked if a future Democrat president “needed” to raise capital gains tax but a recalcitrant congress stonewalled him.
Yeah, right. Like only Count Dracula would drink blood, not all the vampires to follow.....
Abortion? It's illegal.
Fair Tax? It's the law.
EPA? Ended. Dept of Energy? Gone.
Dept of Education? No more.
If Obola has his way there won’t be any “Future” Presidents.
Precedent is precedent. If the Constitution is done, it is done. Can’t have it both ways.
you know the other kind would never risk making the opposition angry.
Sorry Barry, as long as a Republican president has a phone and a pen, they should be able to deport illegal alien invaders all day long.
If it’s “Not Legitimate for Future Presidents to Apply My (O’s) Logic on Executive Actions”, then why did you use it?????
It is not likely that a future president would use executive action to change tax law but such things as suspending enforcement of the endangered species act, or the voting rights act or other matters near and dear to the liberal heart are clear possibilities.
I don’t think the Democrats truly appreciate how they have screwed themselves in the long run. Filibuster? Harry Reid went nuclear...and for what? Now the Republicans are in control and can shove any Democrat filibuster down their throat. Embrace the Suck, Dingy.
Executive Order? There is now nothing to stop a Republican president to do anything they want. Shut down the IRS? No problem. Defund NPR? No problem. Dismantle the Dept. Of Education? Sure.
With the way that white people are defecting the Democrat party, all that will be left it Blacks, illegals and queers. Maybe a few Muslims too. Good luck with that!
Only I can be called El Presidente.
Tough, a&&hole. You created it. We will make you sorry you did.
I wonder what his answer to the follow up question was.
George DID ask the follow up question, didn’t he?
You know, “Why not?”
bammy is a POS hypocrite. But then, we all knew that already.
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
I can't believe that Stephy tried for a brief moment to act like an unbiased reporter?
He is not leaving when his two years are up. We have a person here with a large problem. The guy is crazy and no one will tell him.
